• Astros set to option José Abreu to minor leagues
Astros general manager Dana Brown told reporters Tuesday that José Abreu will be optioned to the minors.

Advice: Brown adds that the decision is mutual with Abreu agreeing to the demotion to extended spring training to get some additional at-bats and work on his timing at the plate. The 37-year-old slugger, who signed a three-year, $58.5 million pact with Houston prior to last year, is batting .099 (7-for-71) with just one extra-base hit this season through 22 games. The move presumably clears up a spot for top prospect Joey Loperfido to get some extended run as Houston’s primary option at the cold corner. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

  • Suffers setback
Chargois (neck) suffered a setback while on a rehab assignment, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Chargois had made three rehab appearances with Triple-A Jacksonville but evidently is having issues with his neck again. The reliever has been out all season and also missed most of spring training due to neck spasms. It's not clear how long he might now be sidelined. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Marlins outright Kent Emanuel to Triple-A
Marlins sent LHP Kent Emanuel outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.

  • Ready for bullpen session
Puk (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

  • Not facing lefty
Carter is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Nationals.

Advice: Carter has now sat out each of the Rangers' last three games against left-handed pitching and seems to be falling into a platoon. Wyatt Langford will draw the start in left while Davis Wendzel will handle DH duties Tuesday. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

  • Beginning rehab assignment
Burger (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Burger has been upping his workouts and is ready to play in some games now. The infielder has been on the shelf for the last two weeks with a left intercostal strain. Burger shouldn't need too many rehab games before rejoining the Marlins' active roster. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago

  • Not starting Tuesday
Wong is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

  • Batting seventh in Boston debut
Cooper is starting at first base and batting seventh Tuesday against the Giants, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: The 33-year-old was acquired from the Cubs over the week and will make his debut for the Red Sox on Tuesday. Cooper had a .270/.341/.432 slash line in 41 plate appearances for Chicago and should see plenty of playing time at first base while Tristan Casas (ribs) is sidelined. • Expected to make start Wednesday
Jefferies is expected to start Wednesday's game in Boston, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The Giants have yet to announce their scheduled starter for Wednesday, but Jefferies was spotted in the clubhouse at Fenway Park on Tuesday. Jefferies is starting in place of Blake Snell (intercostal) and could earn additional starts with Snell expected to be out a while. He was torched for nine runs (five earned) over two innings in a spot start earlier this season. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago
