    Houser did not factor into the decision against the Cubs on Thursday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two.

    Advice: Houser held the Cubs to one run through his first four innings before giving up a three-run homer to Christopher Morel in the fifth. While the Mets would rally for a win in extra innings, saving Houser from a third straight loss, it was another subpar outing from the 31-year-old right-hander. Houser's yet to record an out in the sixth inning this year while posting an ugly 8.16 ERA with a 1.85 WHIP and 6.28 BB/9 -- well up from his career average of 3.68. With Christian Scott, the Mets' top pitching prospect, poised to join the rotation this weekend and Tylor Megill (shoulder) working his way back from injury, Houser's starting job could soon be in jeopardy.     Williams (elbow) resumed throwing Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Williams was cleared by doctors to restart his throwing program Wednesday, and manager Stephen Vogt said the 24-year-old righty was able to get through his throwing session Thursday without any pain.     Rodon (2-2) took the loss Thursday against the Orioles, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over four innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: After shutting out Baltimore through the first two innings, Rodon allowed three solo home runs between the third and fourth innings before the O's put up a four spot in the fifth, forcing the Yankees to turn to the bullpen. It's a deflating effort from Rodon, who'd allowed just one run over 13 innings in his previous two starts. His ERA is up to 3.68 on the season with a 1.28 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB in seven starts.   • Slated for rehab assignment
    Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Javier (neck) will begin a rehab assignment over the weekend, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Espada didn't specify exactly when Javier's first rehab appearance will be, nor did he say how long the 27-year-old right-hander will remain in the minors. However, there had been speculation that Javier would be able to avoid a rehab assignment completely, so he may only need to make one start before returning to an Astros rotation that has already dealt with numerous injuries this season.   • Edward Cabrera whiffs nine, allows four vs. Rockies
    Edward Cabrera allowed four runs in four innings while fanning nine against the Rockies on Thursday.

    Advice: Cabrera pitched better than this line suggests, but a three-run homer by Jacob Stallings turned a strong outing into a mediocre one. The right-hander did have command issues, however, as he walked four and threw 56-of-91 pitches for strikes. Still, an encouraging outing that showed off the 26-year-old’s swing-and-miss potential.   • Camilo Doval picks up sixth save against Red Sox
    Camilo Doval struck out a batter in a scoreless inning of work while picking up a save Thursday against the Red Sox.

    Advice: Doval is now up to six saves on the season. The right-hander didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout, and he pounded the zone with 11-of-14 pitches going for strikes.   • Josh Winckowski surrenders one run over 4 1/3
    Josh Winckowski held the Giants to one run while going 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday.

    Advice: He walked two and wasn’t able to pick up a strikeout. It was far from a dominant start for Winckowski, but the 25-year-old was mostly effective even without much swing-and-miss. The only run came on a solo homer from Mike Yastrzemski in the third. Winckowski has been able to get the job done in his last two starts, but he has yet to go deep enough to qualify for a victory.   • Kyle Harrison holds Red Sox to one in no-decision
    Kyle Harrison went five innings while allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts against the Red Sox on Thursday.

    Advice: It wasn’t always easy for Harrison despite the strong line. The left-hander didn’t find the strike zone on a consistent basis, as he issued five walks with 57-of-95 pitches counting for strikes. Still, the 22-year-old was able to work around those free passes thanks in large part to those aforementioned strikeouts, and he’s allowed just one run over his last two starts.
