• Back in lineup Friday
Toro (shoudler) is starting at third base and hitting in the leadoff spot for Friday's series opener against the Twins.

Advice: Shoulder soreness kept Toro out of the starting lineup for the Athletics' last three games, though he did pinch hit in the seventh inning of Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Royals. On the season, Toro is slashing .259/.300/.387 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 24 RBI over 291 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 3 minutes ago

  • Rob Refsnyder sits due to knee soreness on Friday
Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters on Friday that Rob Refsnyder has been battling soreness in his right knee.

Advice: When Cora was asked if he thought the injury was anything serious, he said “I don’t believe so”. It doesn’t sound like the 33-year-old outfielder will require a trip to the injured list, but it may be a couple of days before he’s ready to return to any sort of game action. • Jeimer Candelario (tendinitis) returns to lineup
Jeimer Candelario (tendinitis) returned to the Reds’ starting lineup on Friday night.

Advice: Candelario was pulled from Tuesday’s game due to general fatigue and tendinitis and then sat out Wednesday’s game as a precautionary measure. He’s feeling much improved after a couple of days off though and is back in there as the Reds’ designated hitter on Friday night. He’ll bat third against Kutter Crawford and the Red Sox. • Day-to-day with undisclosed injury
Reds manager David Bell said Friday that Stephenson is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, Chris Renkel of Local 12 in Cincinnati reports.

Advice: Stephenson caught on Monday and served as the team's designated hitter Tuesday but has now missed two straight starts sandwiched around Thursday's team off day. It's not clear exactly what Stephenson is dealing with, but the Reds brought up Austin Wynns as protection at catcher. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Likely to be activated Saturday
Abreu (ankle) is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Abreu is with the Red Sox in Cincinnati but hasn't been activated just yet, probably because the Reds are starting a left-hander Friday in Andrew Abbott. Expect Abreu to be activated and in Saturday's lineup versus righty Frankie Montas. He's been sidelined since early June with a right ankle sprain. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

  • Nolan Jones (illness) returns to lineup on Friday
Nolan Jones (illness) returned to the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Nationals.

  • Absent from lineup
Horwitz is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Cleveland.

Advice: After starting each of the first five games upon his promotion, Horwitz has now been on the bench three times across the last seven contests, including twice against right-handers. Orelvis Martinez is getting the call at second base Friday. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago

  • Making first start Friday
Martinez will start at second base and bat eighth in Friday's game versus the Guardians.

Advice: It will be the first major-league start for Martinez, who was on the bench for each of the first two contests following his promotion. The 22-year-old is one of the better power-hitting prospects in baseball, but he does struggle to make contact and isn't regarded as a great defender. Getting him playing time does not appear to be a priority for the Blue Jays during this stint, but he will have a chance to show what he can do Friday. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago

  • MRI comes back clean
Torres (groin) was deemed day-to-day after an MRI came back clean Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Torres was lifted from Thursday's game precautionarily due to right groin discomfort and an MRI confirmed that the injury isn't any thing serious. Still, Torres may need a day or two for recovery, which could open up more work for Oswaldo Cabrera and Jahmai Jones. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago
