• Padres closing in on deal to acquire Luis Arraez
Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Padres are finalizing a deal to acquire second baseman Luis Arraez from the Marlins.

Advice: Passan notes that the Marlins will receive a package of three prospects and a relief pitcher in return for the two-time defending batting champion. The Padres already have a strong combo up the middle with Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts, so its likely that the plan is to play Arraez at either first base or third base. Stay tuned, as Passan notes that the deal is in medical review and expected to be finalized soon. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:35 pm

  • Resting against lefty
Brown isn't in the Athletics' lineup Friday against the Marlins.

Advice: Left-hander Ryan Weathers will take the mound Friday for Miami, meaning the left-handed bat of Brown will stay put in Oakland's dugout. Max Schuemann will fill the opening in left field and bat seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:24 pm

  • Returns from IL
The Athletics reinstated Davis (thigh) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Advice: The 31-year-old went 3-for-15 during a four-game rehab sitnt with Triple-A Las Vegas and is back in the lineup Friday for Oakland, as he's starting at first base and batting fifth. Davis posted a .196/.255/.373 slash line in 14 games prior to suffering the adductor strain. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:21 pm

  • Joey Gallo (shoulder) ready for rehab assignment
Joey Gallo (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Single-A Fredericksburg on Saturday.

Advice: The free-swinging 30-year-old slugger has been sidelined since late April due to an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder. He should only need a couple of game’s worth of at-bats before he’s cleared to return to the Nationals’ lineup. Whether or not that will help, is another question. Gallo was hitting just .122/.286/.311 with three homers, five RBI, one swipe and a 43/15 K/BB ratio over 91 plate appearances before landing on the injured list. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:20 pm

  • Athletics activate J.D. Davis from 10-day IL
Athletics activated INF J.D. Davis from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The 31-year-old slugger has been shelved since the middle of April due to a right groin strain. He’ll return to a .196/.255/.373 slash line to go along with two homers, two RBI and a 16/3 K/BB ratio over 55 plate appearances through his first 14 ballgames. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:11 pm

  • Matt Mervis goes 0-for-3, strikes out twice
Matt Mervis went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Friday, leaving him 3-for-26 since his callup.

Advice: Especially with Pete Crow-Armstrong starting off well, Mervis needs to heat up if he’s going to have much chance of sticking around after Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki return. The Cubs would be content with Mike Tauchman as their lefty DH once they have a healthy outfield. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:02 pm

  • Brandon Drury (head) remains out of action Friday
Brandon Drury (migraine) remains out of the Angels’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Guardians.

Advice: It’s unclear if Drury is sitting again because he’s still dealing with the migraine issue, or if manager Ron Washington simply wanted to go a different direction with right-hander Tanner Bibee on the hill for the Guardians on Friday night. Luis Rengifo will cover second base in his absence while Willie Calhoun functions as the Halos’ designated hitter. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:38 pm

  • Sidelined again Friday
Drury (migraine) isn't part of Friday's lineup against the Guardians.

Advice: Drury was scratched from Wednesday's contest due to a migraine, and while it hasn't been confirmed that it's the injury holding him out of Friday's game, it can be assumed that that's the case. Luis Rengifo will make another start at second with Ehire Adrianza over at third. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:37 pm

  • Cleared for rehab assignment
Gallo (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Fredericksburg on Saturday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: It's a relatively quick turnaround for Gallo, who went on the injured list less than a week ago with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. Because he's missed so little time, Gallo shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:30 pm
