    • Two extra-base hits
Tovar went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Giants.

Advice: Tovar has been struggling to hit for power across the last few weeks, as he had only three extra-base hits (all doubles) across his last 21 starts entering Thursday's game. He managed to end that drought against the Giants, as he tallied both a double and a triple in the fourth inning when the Rockies batted around. For the season, Tovar has a decent .714 OPS, though that's come with a relatively empty three homers and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Today, 6:19 am
    • Three-hit game for Ezequiel Tovar against Giants
Ezequiel Tovar picked up three hits and scored a run in a victory over the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Tovar singled twice and also doubled. The RBI came on that double in the fourth inning, and he’s up to eight two-baggers with 13 RBI over the first 36 games of 2024. Tovar still has work to be done, but at the age of 22, he’s got time to figure it all out. A .269/.314/.400 slash gives you an idea of what he’s capable of in the coming seasons. • Sits out Wednesday
Anderson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Dodgers, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Anderson appears to be getting a routine day off while he's accumulated just one hit over his last four games. Vidal Brujan will slide over from second base to replace Anderson at shortstop. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:38 am

    • Tim Anderson goes 0-for-4 in loss to Dodgers
Tim Anderson went 0-for-4 against the Dodgers on Tuesday, dropping his average to .203.

Advice: It was worth seeing if Anderson might bounce back from his awful 2023, but he’s been even worse in 35 games this year. In 118 plate appearances, he has three extra-base hits, six walks and 37 strikeouts. His contact numbers are horrible, and he’s not making hard contact when he does hit the ball. He’s also not very good defensively at this stage of his career. Otto Lopez wouldn’t be more than a placeholder for the Marlins, but he has to be better than Anderson right now. • Ezequiel Tovar gets first day off of season
Ezequiel Tovar is not in the lineup to begin Sunday’s game against the Pirates.

Advice: For the first time in 2024, Tovar will get a day off. The shortstop will at least begin Sunday’s finale on the bench with Alan Trejo handling his duties. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:54 am
    • Receiving first day off
Tovar is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Advice: Tovar will take a seat for the first time all season after starting in each of Colorado's first 33 games, enabling Alan Trejo to enter the lineup at shortstop. The Rockies are likely hoping that a day on the bench will be helpful for Tovar as he looks to break out of his recent funk at the plate; over his last nine games, he's slashing .128/.171/.154 with a 39 percent strikeout rate. • Back in action Thursday
Anderson (thumb) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Thursday's game versus the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Anderson missed two starts with a mild left thumb sprain, which he suffered during Monday's 7-2 loss to the Nationals. The Marlins were hoping for a bounce-back season from the veteran shortstop following a disastrous 2023 campaign, but Anderson has actually been worse so far in 2024, slashing a mere .221/.267/.253 over 29 games. • Tim Anderson scratched from Wed. lineup
Tim Anderson has been scratched from Wednesday’s lineup due to a mild left thumb sprain.

Advice: Anderson is now out of the Marlins’ lineup in consecutive games after he left Monday’s game with a thumb injury. The team said he’s out today as a precautionary measure, so hopefully the 30-year-old is back in the lineup in the coming days. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:01 pm

    • Scratched from lineup
Anderson (thumb) has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Anderson's sprained left thumb is still a little sore, so he will miss a second straight start. The Marlins are calling Anderson's removal from the lineup precautionary, so consider him day-to-day. Vidal Brujan will fill in again at shortstop Wednesday. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:00 pm
