  • Yu Darvish's MRI pushed back to next week
A scheduled MRI on Yu Darvish's right elbow has been pushed back to next week.

Advice: It appears to merely just be a scheduling conflict, as the Rangers still expect the MRI to come back clean. Darvish's season ended early due to elbow inflammation, but he's expected to be cleared to offseason work next week assuming the MRI reveals no issues. Rotoworld.com

  • Pirates commit to Pedro Alvarez at 1B
Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Thursday after the team designated Ike Davis for assignment that they've "essentially committed" to Pedro Alvarez at first base.

Advice: Huntington previously had refused to rule out Alvarez remaining at third base, but with his throwing issues and Josh Harrison's emergence at the hot corner, a move to first for Alvarez was inevitable. Alvarez slugged 36 homers in 2013, but that number was cut in half in 2014 and he hit just .231/.312/.405 overall. His season ended early due to a stress reaction in his left foot, but he didn't need surgery and is expected to have a normal offseason. Rotoworld.com

  • Craig Counsell won't get Rays' job
MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports that Craig Counsell has pulled out of the running for the Rays' manager job.

Advice: Counsell was one of 10 candidate to interview for the gig. He will continue with his job as special assistant to Brewers general manager Doug Melvin. Rotoworld.com

  • 'Plenty of interest' in David Ross
Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that there has been "plenty of interest" in David Ross.

Advice: However, he adds that there's "nothing imminent" in terms of Ross signing on somewhere. The veteran catcher batted just .184/.260/.368 in 50 games this past season, but his bat has been more potent in the past and he's well-regarded as a receiver and clubhouse guy. Rotoworld.com

  • Cubs, Dodgers, White Sox in on Miguel Montero
Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Cubs, Dodgers and White Sox have talked to the Diamondbacks about a trade involving Miguel Montero.

Advice: It's not clear how far along the talks with those teams have gotten, but Piecoro does note that the inquiries "have not picked up significantly" since the Russell Martin signing. The D'Backs are shopping Montero in hopes of clearing some payroll space, possibly so that they can add some pitching. Rotoworld.com

  • Reed's sexual assault charges reinstated
A Wayne County judge has reinstated two sexual assault charges against former Tigers pitcher Evan Reed.

Advice: Reed, 28, was accused of raping a 45-year-old woman on March 30 in a hotel room at Motor City Casino but had two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct dropped in August. His lawyer has appealed the reinstatement of the charges. Rotoworld.com

  • Rays get Jose Dominguez from Dodgers
Rays acquired RHPs Jose Dominguez and Greg Harris from the Dodgers in exchange for RHP Joel Peralta and LHP Adam Liberatore.

Advice: Dominguez hasn't fared well in his brief time in the majors, but he can touch triple-digits on the radar gun, which obviously makes him quite appealing. He should crack the Rays' Opening Day bullpen. Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Kohn designated for assignment
Rays designated RHP Michael Kohn for assignment.

Advice: The Rays just signed Kohn last month, but the right-hander will now be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. The 28-year-old holds a 3.67 ERA with 107 strikeouts across 110 1/3 frames at the major league level, though he's also walked 73. Rotoworld.com

  • Dodgers get Peralta from TB in 4-player deal
Dodgers acquired RHP Joel Peralta and LHP Adam Liberatore from the Rays in exchange for RHPs Jose Dominguez and Greg Harris.

Advice: The Rays exercised Peralta's $2.5 million option for 2015 earlier this month (he has $2.5 million club options for 2016 and 2017, as well) but have now decided to deal him for a bit of payroll space. The 38-year-old put up a 3.58 ERA and 293/84 K/BB ratio over 269 1/3 frames the last four years for the Rays and will work in a setup role for the Dodgers. Rotoworld.com

  • Dodgers add Zach Lee to 40-man roster
Dodgers purchased the contract of RHP Zach Lee from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Lee was ranked the No. 84 prospect by Baseball Prospectus prior to the 2014 season. He struggled with the move from Double-A to Triple-A, posting an inflated 5.38 ERA over 150 innings, while striking out only 97. Rotoworld.com

  • Nationals add Brian Goodwin to 40-man roster
Nationals purchased the contract of OF Brian Goodwin from Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Goodwin is now protected from the Rule-5 Draft. Baseball Prospectus ranked him as the No. 86 prospect prior to 2014. He hit .218/.342/.328 in Triple-A last season. Rotoworld.com

  • Vic Black says he's over shoulder issue
Vic Black said Thursday that his right rotator cuff injury is a thing of the past.

Advice: Black resumed workouts three weeks ago and recently started playing catch. "Everything feels good," Black said. "I haven't had any aches or issues. I wake up in the morning and feel normal." The right-hander should have a spot in the Mets' Opening Day bullpen. Rotoworld.com

  • Twins add Miguel Sano to 40-man roster
Twins purchased the contract of 3B Miguel Sano from Double-A New Britain.

Advice: Sano is now protected from December's Rule 5 Draft. The 21-year-old sat out the entire 2014 season due to Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, but he should continue his ascent through the Twins' farm system in 2015. He remains a highly-thought-of prospect. Rotoworld.com

  • Longoria (forearm) homers in return to lineup
Evan Longoria (forearm) returned to the starting lineup for the MLB All-Stars Thursday in Japan.

Advice: Longoria made an early exit from Monday's game in Tokyo after being hit on the left forearm by a pitch, but that was merely a precautionary move. He hit a home run Thursday in the final game of the 10-day tour. Rotoworld.com

  • White Sox have interest in FA Melky Cabrera
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the White Sox are interested in free agent Melky Cabrera.

Advice: Heyman also names the Orioles and Mariners as potential fits for the 30-year-old outfielder, who batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 139 games this past season for the Blue Jays. He rejected a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer from Toronto earlier this month, so his free agency is tied to draft pick compensation. The Jays are probably out of the mix to re-sign Cabrera because they spent $82 million on catcher Russell Martin. Rotoworld.com

  • Reed's sexual assault dismissal appealed
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has appealed the dismissal of criminal sexual conduct charges against Evan Reed.

Advice: The appeal will be heard Friday morning. Reed, 28, was accused of raping a 45-year-old woman on March 30 in a hotel room at Motor City Casino. He was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, but all of the charges were dismissed in August. Reed elected free agency earlier this month after being removed from the Tigers' 40-man roster. Rotoworld.com

  • Evan Longoria exits game after HBP
Evan Longoria exited Monday's game in Japan after being hit by a pitch on the left forearm.

Advice: He was removed from the game as a precaution, as Longo only has a bruise. Longoria is in Japan along with other MLB All-Stars as part of a five-game postseason tour. Rotoworld.com

  • Martin signing probably means Melky on move
ESPN's Bust Olney tweeted that the Blue Jays' signing of Russell Martin "likely takes" Melky out of long-term consideration for the team.

Advice: The Blue Jays will lose a draft pick for signing Martin, but they would gain one if Cabrera signs elsewhere. The Melk Man recently turned down a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer from the team. Cabrera batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 homers and 73 RBI over 139 games in 2014. Should he move on from the Blue Jays, it's been reported that Cabrera would prefer to play either on the East Coast or in the Midwest Rotoworld.com

  • Melky Cabrera prefers East Coast/Midwest?
Bob Dutton of the Tacoma New Tribune hears that Melky Cabrera prefers to play on the East Coast or in the Midwest.

Advice: Dutton says the Mariners have "some interest" in Cabrera, but it appears them being on the West Coast could be a deterrent. The Blue Jays would like to re-sign the outfielder, but many teams figure to be in on the 30-year-old. Cabrera batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 homers and 73 RBI over 139 games for Toronto this past season. Rotoworld.com

  • Rays interview Larkin, completing first round
The Rays interviewed Barry Larkin for their managerial opening Saturday.

Advice: Larkin was the final candidate to be interviewed, so Saturday's meeting marked the end of the first round of interviews. The team will now likely narrow its list and conduct another round of interviews before settling on a successor for Joe Maddon. Larkin gained some managerial experience managing Brazil in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, but he hasn't yet held a position as a major league manager. Rotoworld.com

The Rays interviewed Indians bench coach Kevin Cash for their managerial opening Wednesday.

Advice: The Cash interview leaves on late additions Barry Larkin and Doug Glanville left to be interviewed. Cash was also in the running for the Rangers' open managerial position. Rotoworld.com
