    • Parker goes seven innings in no-decison Thursday
      Mitchell Parker allowed two runs in seven innings and got a no-decision against the Braves on Thursday.



      Advice: Parker gave up three hits, walked none and struck out two. He had a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning, but Adam Duvall got him for a game-tying two-run home run. Parker’s ERA is 3.47 in 10 starts this year, though he’s won just one of his last eight starts. The 24-year-old left-hander is set to face the Tigers on the road next week.

      Munoz (back) played catch prior to Thursday's game in Oakland, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

      Advice: Drayer adds that Munoz was seen giving fist bumps to others afterward, which would seem to indicate things went well. Munoz had to be removed from an appearance Thursday versus the Athletics, but there's optimism he can avoid the injured list and could be available to pitch this weekend in Kansas City, per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.     • Andrés Muñoz will likely avoid an IL stint
      According to The Seattle Times’ Adam Jude, Andrés Muñoz (back) is “determined to pitch through his back strain” and will likely avoid an IL stint.

      Advice: The Mariners’ closer has been pitching through the strain since the second game of the season, which may explain why he has had some “off nights” during the 2024 season. However, he has also pitched to a 1.73 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 26 innings, so it hasn’t been impacting him too much. “I’ve been here before,” said Munoz. “I’ve felt like this before, so I know we can manage that and be ready to go. ...       Munoz (back) said Wednesday that he's feeling better and remains optimistic he'll avoid a stint on the injured list, MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The results of the right-hander's MRI are still pending, but Munoz appears confident the flareup of a lower-back issue that caused his removal from Tuesday's appearance is temporary. Munoz revealed Wednesday he had actually been dealing with his back strain since the second game of the season and has been managing it with treatment and other pain-management remedies. Consequently, the collision with the Athletics' Max Schuemann in Tuesday's game wasn't the actual culprit, as Munoz added that he had already been feeling back tightness when warming up in the bullpen that night.       Suarez allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against Toronto on Wednesday.

      Advice: Suarez remained in the rotation for a third straight start and did a good job of keeping Baltimore in the contest with five strong frames. The only damage against him came in the second inning, when he surrendered two runs -- twice as many as he had allowed in his previous two starts combined. Suarez has posted a 1.93 ERA across 14 innings since rejoining the Orioles rotation May 25.       Gilbert (3-4) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out five without walking a batter over seven innings, but he took the loss Wednesday versus the Athletics.

      Advice: Gilbert can be partly to blame for this loss, as his throwing error on a pickoff attempt put Daz Cameron in position to score on a passed ball in the fifth inning. The Mariners' lack of offense was the other problem, which led to Gilbert taking his fourth loss in his last six outings. He's turned in a quality start in four of those games despite the lack of wins. The right-hander is at a 3.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 76:20 K:BB through 83.2 innings over 13 starts this season.       Logan Gilbert allowed two runs -- one earned -- with five strikeouts over seven innings in a loss against the Athletics on Wednesday.

      Advice: Gilbert had retired the first seven batters he faced before Zack Gelof took him deep for a solo homer in the third inning. A wild pitch and a passed ball error would bring a second run in to score for the A’s in the fifth. Gilbert would toss two more scoreless frames, but was saddled with the loss as the Mariners failed to get a run in. The 27-year-old right-hander will take a 3.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a 76/20 K/BB ratio across 83 2/3 innings into a start against the White Sox in Seattle on Monday.       Albert Suárez pitched five innings of two-run ball Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

      Advice: Suárez was uninvolved in the decision after exiting a 2-2 game. He’s made six starts for the Orioles this year, and while he hasn’t completed six innings in any of them, he’s allowed more than two runs just once.       The Mariners are still awaiting the results of the MRI exam on the injured back of right-hander Andrés Muñoz.

      Advice: The Mariners have yet to make a roster move prior to Wednesday’s game against the Athletics and Muñoz was with the rest of the M’s relievers in the bullpen during warmups, though he did not throw.
