      Advice: Diaz blew his first save of the season Sunday against Tampa Bay, but he went right back to work with the Mets holding a one-run ninth-inning lead a day later. The star closer didn't falter this time, retiring all three batters he faced on 11 pitches. The save was Diaz's fifth of the campaign and his first since April 15.       Edwin Díaz hurled a perfect ninth inning on Monday against the Cardinals to collect his fifth save of the season.

      Advice: Díaz got the call to protect a narrow one-run margin in the final frame during Monday’s series opener at Busch Stadium and needed just 11 pitches (seven strikes) to slam the door. He struck out Alec Burleson before coaxing ground outs from Brendan Donovan and Masyn Winn to end the contest. He’s converted five of his six save chances this season to go along with a 2.45 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and sparkling 22/4 K/BB ratio across 14 2/3 innings (14 appearances) this season.       Castillo (3-5) yielded three runs on three hits over 6.2 innings Monday, striking out seven and taking a loss against the Twins.

      Advice: Castillo fired four shutout frames before the Twins broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. He later was charged with two more runs in the seventh. Entering Monday's start, Castillo had turned in four straight outings with two or fewer earned runs allowed. He's factored into the decision in each of his eight starts and snapped his three-game winning streak Monday. Despite the up-and-down start to his season, Castillo has registered a solid 3.54 ERA with a 56:11 K:BB through 48.1 innings.       Luis Castillo gave up three runs — two earned — over 6 2/3 innings in a loss Monday to the Twins.

      Advice: Castillo allowed just an unearned run over the first six, but two more crossed the plate in the seventh. The right-hander struck out seven against three walks, and it was another solid outing for the 31-year-old right-hander.       Diaz blew the save Sunday against the Rays, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts over one inning.

      Advice: Diaz was tagged for a solo home run by Randy Arozarena in the ninth frame, his second long ball allowed in three appearances.       Jon Gray held the Royals to two runs in seven innings and struck out seven on Sunday.

      Advice: Gray got 17 missed swings today, including 13 on just 34 sliders, and walked none in another excellent outing. Since giving up five runs in his season debut, he’s allowed a total of four earned runs in 36 innings, leaving him with a 2.50 ERA. If history repeats, he’s about due for an injury... it often seems to happen after his stronger stretches like this. Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time around.       Gray pitched seven innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Royals. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: Gray was tagged early Sunday, giving up a run in the first inning and then another in the bottom of the third frame on an RBI double by Vinnie Pasquantino. He finished his outing with four scoreless frames, securing his second straight quality start. Gray now owns a 2.50 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 42 strikeouts over 39.2 innings in eight starts this season, and he's tentatively set to return to the mound Saturday against the Rockies for a road matchup against his former team.     • Edwin Díaz gives up game-tying homer in ninth
      Edwin Díaz took his first blown save after giving up a homer to Randy Arozarena in the ninth inning Sunday against the Rays.

      Advice: The solo shot came on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. It wasn’t even technically a hard-hit ball from Arozarena, leaving the bat at 94.7 mph. Díaz has now given up three homers in 13 2/3 innings, matching the total he allowed over 62 innings in 2022 (and 62 2/3 innings in 2021).
