    • Coughs up three runs
      Castillo (3-5) yielded three runs on three hits over 6.2 innings Monday, striking out seven and taking a loss against the Twins.

      Advice: Castillo fired four shutout frames before the Twins broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. He later was charged with two more runs in the seventh. Entering Monday's start, Castillo had turned in four straight outings with two or fewer earned runs allowed. He's factored into the decision in each of his eight starts and snapped his three-game winning streak Monday. Despite the up-and-down start to his season, Castillo has registered a solid 3.54 ERA with a 56:11 K:BB through 48.1 innings.     • Luis Castillo pitches well, but picks up loss to Twins
      Luis Castillo gave up three runs — two earned — over 6 2/3 innings in a loss Monday to the Twins.

      Advice: Castillo allowed just an unearned run over the first six, but two more crossed the plate in the seventh. The right-hander struck out seven against three walks, and it was another solid outing for the 31-year-old right-hander.     • Jon Gray fans seven in seven fine innings
      Jon Gray held the Royals to two runs in seven innings and struck out seven on Sunday.

      Advice: Gray got 17 missed swings today, including 13 on just 34 sliders, and walked none in another excellent outing. Since giving up five runs in his season debut, he’s allowed a total of four earned runs in 36 innings, leaving him with a 2.50 ERA. If history repeats, he’s about due for an injury... it often seems to happen after his stronger stretches like this. Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time around.     • Quality start versus Royals
      Gray pitched seven innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Royals. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: Gray was tagged early Sunday, giving up a run in the first inning and then another in the bottom of the third frame on an RBI double by Vinnie Pasquantino. He finished his outing with four scoreless frames, securing his second straight quality start. Gray now owns a 2.50 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 42 strikeouts over 39.2 innings in eight starts this season, and he's tentatively set to return to the mound Saturday against the Rockies for a road matchup against his former team.       Morton did not factor into the decision Friday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Morton held the vaunted Dodgers lineup in check, delivering his third straight quality start. Over those three starts, the 40-year-old has thrown 19 innings with a 1.89 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB. Morton is slated to face the Mets on the road in his next start.     • Charlie Morton holds LAD to two runs in no-decision
      Charlie Morton gave up two runs in six innings against the Dodgers on Friday while not factoring into the decision.

      Advice: Morton continues his good run, but it comes without a win as Atlanta didn’t provide him the necessary run support. The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 3.50 while scattering five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Morton didn’t look good in the middle of April, but the 40-year-old has been a very strong option outside of those two outings where he gave up 12 of the 14 runs he’s given up in 2024.     • Yusei Kikuchi sharp in no-decision versus Nats
      Yusei Kikuchi limited the Nationals to one run in six innings and fanned seven in a no-decision Friday.

      Advice: Kikuchi left with a two-run lead and then watched the bullpen give up seven runs in two innings. This is probably the Jays’ ugliest loss yet, particularly since they were facing Patrick Corbin. Kikuchi is certainly doing his part thus far, amassing a 2.72 ERA and a 43/9 K/BB ratio in 39 2/3 innings. Still, the Jays are 3-4 when he pitches, having scored a total of 20 runs in those seven games. Rotoworld Friday, 8:12 pm
       
    • Quality start wasted Friday
      Kikuchi came away with a no-decision in Friday's 9-3 loss to the Nationals, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out seven

      Advice: He carved up the Washington lineup en route to his fourth quality start of the season, generating 34 called or swinging strikes among his 100 pitches, and Kikuchi left the mound with Toronto ahead 3-1. Unfortunately, Erik Swanson immediately coughed up the lead in the seventh inning, denying Kikuchi his third win. The southpaw will take a 2.72 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 39.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Twins.     • Takes loss Thursday
      Allen (2-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings in a loss against Houston on Thursday.

      Advice: Allen allowed just one run through five frames, but Jon Singleton launched a two-out, two-run homer against him in the sixth to send him to the showers and put him in line for the loss. The left-handed hurler fell one out shy of his second quality start of the campaign, though he's pitched more than five innings in three of his past four outings. After a promising rookie campaign last year, Allen has fallen back a bit in 2024 with a 5.11 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 31:12 K:BB through 37 frames. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:10 pm
