    • Earns third straight win
Montgomery (6-4) earned the win against the Phillies on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings.

Advice: Montgomery tossed two scoreless innings before surrendering a two-run home run to Trea Turner in the third. He responded with three straight scoreless innings and left the game with a 4-2 lead after throwing 83 pitches. Montgomery earned his third consecutive win while registering his first quality start in June, as he has not reached 90 pitches in an outing since May 19. On the season, Montgomery owns a 5.71 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB over 63 innings and tentatively lines up to face the Twins next week. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago
    • Fans seven in win
Carrasco (3-6) allowed a run on four hits over six innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Carrasco kept Toronto off the board until he coughed up a solo homer to Vladimir Guerrero in the fourth inning. Carrasco entered Friday's game in a rough stretch, going 0-4 with a 5.96 ERA over his previous five starts since his last win May 5. The veteran righty lowered his season ERA to 5.40 with a 51:21 K:BB after punching out a season-high seven batters Friday. With Gavin Williams (elbow) expected to return soon, Carrasco's role moving forward is unclear. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

    • Allows three homers in loss
Walker (3-3) took the loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over four innings.

Advice: Walker allowed four runs on three home runs, including back-to-back homers by Gabriel Moreno and Joc Pederson in the third inning. Walker generated only four swings on 77 pitches, including just one whiff with his splitter. Walker has failed to record a win or quality start since May 11 and currently owns a 5.60 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 43:21 K:BB over 53 innings. He tentatively lines up to face the Tigers next week. • Earns ninth save
Sewald earned a save against the Phillies on Friday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Advice: Tasked with preserving a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning, Sewald needed just 11 pitches to secure his ninth save of the year. Sewald has not allowed a run since his first outing of the season May 7 and is a perfect 9-for-9 in save chances. He now owns a sparkling 0.66 ERA, 0.51 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings in 2024. • Paul Sewald shuts down Phillies for ninth save
Paul Sewald pitched a clean ninth inning on Friday to earn the save.

Advice: There must be something about the city of Philadelphia or Citizens Bank itself that just calms Sewald because he did on Friday what he did four times in the last NLCS: shut the Phillies down. David Dahl did put a ball to the warning track, but it was to no avail. Sewald has not allowed a run in 14 straight appearances this season. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago
    • Taijuan Walker struggles again, allows three homers
Taijuan Walker allowed four earned runs in four innings of work on Friday against the Diamondbacks. He struck out three and walked three en route to the loss.

Advice: Walker’s dreadful season continued in this one. He had fewer whiffs than homers allowed which is all you need to know about this start and his season overall. It’s notable that Spencer Turnbull followed Walker in long-relief. He settled the game down and made this appearance exactly five days after his last long-relief appearance where Walker’s next appearance is likely coming in five days from this game. Turnbull had a strong April in the rotation with Walker on the IL and it’s difficult to find a reason that Walker would be more effective than Turnbull in that role going forward. • Carlos Carrasco cruises through six innings for win
Carlos Carrasco allowed just one run across six innings on Friday in a 7-1 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out seven without walking a batter.

Advice: No, you did not fall into a wormhole and transport yourself back to 2017 despite Carrasco’s line making it feel that way. He was flat out good in this one. His fastball ticked up to 93 MPH and his slider forced seven whiffs on 13 swings as he mixed all five of his pitches against this pitiful Blue Jays lineup. Tip the cap to the veteran Carrasco for a great start. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

    • Yariel Rodríguez can’t get through two innings
Yariel Rodríguez lasted just 1 1/3 innings on Friday against the Guardians and allowed four earned runs. He walked three batters and struck out just one.

Advice: Rodríguez’s return to the Blue Jays’ rotation left a lot to be desired. His usually impressive slider did not look sharp and was moving less compared to before his injury. Without that, he didn’t have a put-away pitch and struggled to retire nearly every batter he faced. He’d built up to about 80 pitches in April and could get back there with legitimate strikeout upside if the Jays let him. He just isn’t there yet. Rotoworld 51 minutes ago
    • Earns 13th save
Foley struck out one over 1.1 innings to earn the save in a 2-1 win over the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Foley was summoned to protect a 2-1 lead with two outs in the eighth inning and induced a groundout from Andrew Vaughn. He hit Paul DeJong with a pitch in the ninth but ended the game with a double play to earn his 13th save of the season. Foley has not allowed an earned run in seven June appearances and is now 13-for-15 in save chances with a 2.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB over 27 innings in 2024. Rotowire.com Today, 6:31 pm
