• Moves to injured list
The Rockies placed Jones on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to April 29, with a low-back strain.

Advice: The 25-year-old was removed from Sunday's game against the Astros after his back injury flared up, and he'll be sidelined for at least the next week and a half after being diagnosed with a strain. Prospect Jordan Beck was promoted in a corresponding move and should see most of the reps in left field while Jones is sidelined. Rotowire.com Today, 11:39 am

  • Rockies place Nolan Jones (back) on 10-day IL
Rockies placed OF Nolan Jones on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 29, with a low back strain.

Advice: Jones was removed from last Sunday’s game due to back tightness and now will head to the injured list until at least mid-May. The 25-year-old is slashing .170/.243/.277 through his first 26 games this season, which is definitely a disappointment for fantasy managers that drafted him expecting more of the same in 2023, but he’s hit somewhat of a sophomore slump. • Belts homer in win
De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in a 5-2 victory against the Padres.

Advice: De La Cruz set the Reds on a positive path with his massive 443-foot solo shot to center field in the first inning. The long ball snapped a four game-stretch during which the dynamic young shortstop didn't knock any extra-base hits and went just 1-for-13 at the plate, though he did maintain valuable production with three thefts during that span. De La Cruz has been one of baseball's most impressive performers early in the campaign, slashing .280/.390/.590 with eight home runs, 19 RBI, 26 runs and a league-leading 18 stolen bases through 118 plate appearances. • Nolan Jones likely headed to IL with back injury
Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports that Nolan Jones (back) is likely headed to the injured list.

Advice: Jones was removed from Sunday’s game with stiffness in his back. The 25-year-old will be replaced on the roster by prospect Jordan Beck, with the transaction likely announced Tuesday. Jones has been a disappointment this year, and now he’ll miss at least a week while recovering from the back ailment. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:39 pm

  • Records first win
Leiter (1-1) retired the only two batters he faced out of the bullpen to earn the win in Monday's 3-1 victory over the Mets.

Advice: Starter Jameson Taillon was excellent over 7.1 innings, but the Cubs turned to Leiter to get the last two outs of the eighth. The veteran righty delivered, then scooped up his first win of the year when Christopher Morel hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth. Leiter has been excellent all year, posting a 0.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts across 13 innings. He should continue to work in a setup role ahead of new closer Hector Neris, though he could be next up for saves if Neris falters. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:30 pm
  • MRI brings positive news
Manager Kevin Cash stated Monday that the news on Lowe's MRI was "pretty good" and the team is monitoring him on a day-to-day basis, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe was expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list over the weekend after recovering from an oblique injury that forced him to miss the first month of the 2024 campaign, but the club pushed the pause button after he felt some tightness in his right hamstring. This update from Cash is vague, so while it seems Lowe has managed to avoid a significant hamstring injury, the team has yet to provide a concrete timetable for the outfielder's return from the injured list. • Stuck with tough loss Monday
Schmidt (2-1) took the loss Monday as the Yankees were downed 2-0 by the Orioles, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: A solo shot by Gunnar Henderson in the first inning accounted for all the damage off the right-hander, but his teammates couldn't solve Grayson Rodriguez and the Baltimore bullpen. Schmidt exited after 92 pitches (56 strikes) and just missed recording his first quality start of the season. He'll take a 3.19 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB through 31 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Tigers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:03 pm
  • Clarke Schmidt strikes out five in loss versus O’s
Clarke Schmidt allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out five batters in 5 2/3 innings on Monday against the Orioles.

Advice: Besides a leadoff home run to Gunnar Henderson, Schmidt pitched well against a potent Baltimore offense. After the first inning when he allowed that home run and a single to Ryan O’Hearn, the 28-year-old hurler allowed just one hit in his final four innings. He now holds a solid 3.19 ERA, 1.39 WHIP with a 34/13 K/BB ratio in his six starts this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:07 pm
  • Shut down from activity
Gelof (oblique) is currently shut down from baseball activity, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gelof was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a strained left oblique, but he appears to be on track to miss more than the minimum amount of days. The 24-year-old will likely need to ramp his activity over a series of days before he could ultimately be activated. In the meantime, Max Schuemann will likely continue to handle the lion's share of work at second base with Oakland in Gelof's absence. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:41 pm
