  • John Maans to undergo season-ending elbow surgery
    Orioles’ general manager Mike Elias told reporters on Friday that left-hander John Means will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the UCL in his left elbow.

    Advice: Oof. It’s unclear if Means will undergo another Tommy John surgery, or if he’ll have the internal brace procedure done, but either way he’ll miss the rest of the 2024 campaign and at least the start of the 2025 season while recovering.     Advice: Imanaga's last scheduled start was rained out, and instead of pushing him back, the Cubs opted to build in some extra rest for the southpaw. That plan appears to have backfired, as the seven runs he allowed Wednesday matched the total he'd given up in his first nine starts combined. His ERA rose from 0.84 to 1.86, and he's added a 1.00 WHIP and 59:10 K:BB across 58 innings through his first 10 big-league starts.   • Shota Imanaga hit for seven runs against Brewers
    Shota Imanaga allowed seven runs with one strikeout over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Brewers on Wednesday.

    Advice: Coming off 10 days of rest, Imanaga had his worst outing of the year on Wednesday, giving up more earned runs than he had all season. He came into this one with just five extra-base hits allowed and the Brewers matched that with five off Imanaga. Christian Yelich got the scoring started with a two-run blast in the first inning. Five hits, including a two-run homer by Blake Perkins, would bring five more runs in to score in the third. Imanaga would pitch into the fifth, leaving with one out and one runner on at 81 pitches. Even after the blowup outing, the 30-year-old left-hander holds an outstanding 1.86 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 59/10 K/BB ratio across 58 innings.     Advice: Harrison's final line ultimately could've looked a lot worse, as he surrendered a career-most 12 hits. The 22-year-old southpaw's hit a rough patch of late, giving up three or more runs over five innings in each of his last four starts. Harrison's ERA is up to 4.15 through 12 starts (65 innings) this year with a 1.40 WHIP and 60:22 K:BB.     Advice: Harrison was knocked around for a staggering 12 hits, including homers by Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos, so it’s pretty remarkable that he managed to limit the damage to just four runs over five frames of work. He racked up five strikeouts and only handed out one free pass. The 22-year-old southpaw will bring a respectable 4.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 60/22 K/BB ratio across 65 innings (12 starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the division-rival Diamondbacks.     Iglesias struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 13th save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Nationals.

    Advice: The right-hander topped out at 97.5 mph and fired nine of 11 pitches for strikes as he breezed through the top of Washington's order. Iglesias appears to be finding his peak form, reeling off four straight scoreless appearances with a 5:0 K:BB. On the season, he sports a 2.21 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB through 20.1 innings.     Raisel Iglesias threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save in a 2-0 win over the Nationals on Tuesday.

    Advice: Iglesias struck out two and didn’t allow a hit as he picked up his 13th save of the season. He doesn’t get the respect that other elite closers get, but Iglesias has been one of the most reliable options in fantasy baseball for a while now.
