    • Faces hitters in live session
      Senga (shoulder) completed a 32-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

      Advice: Facing hitters in extended live BP session marks a major milestone in Senga's recovery from a right posterior shoulder capsule strain, which caused him to miss most of spring training and resulted in him opening the season on the 15-day injured list before he was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 10. He won't be eligible to make his season debut until May 27, but Senga appears on target to return on or around that date based on where he currently stands in his recovery. The Mets will see how he bounces back from Saturday's throwing session over the next couple of days before deciding whether he's ready to report to a minor-league affiliate to begin a rehab assignment, or if he'll need to throw another live BP before doing so.       Kodai Senga (shoulder) threw 32 pitches in his live bullpen session Saturday.

      Advice: Senga has now faced live hitters twice this week. The Mets will now determine the next steps for the right-hander in the coming days, as they want to see how he responds before deciding when he’ll begin a rehab assignment. There’s a very good chance he does begin that assignment at this point, however, and he’s on track to make his return around May 27 — the earliest Senga can be activated off the 60-day IL.     • John Means spins seven-inning gem in ’24 debut
      John Means recorded eight strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Saturday in a win over the Reds.

      Advice: Means spun an absolute gem in his season debut following a five-week absence at the outset of the season due to a lingering elbow issue from last year, limiting Cincinnati’s stellar lineup to just three hits over seven frames. The 31-year-old southpaw induced 19 swinging strikes, including eight on his signature changeup alone, and finished with a near-elite 39 percent CSW. It was an extremely encouraging outing and certainly inspires confidence in his ability to make an impact for fantasy managers moving forward. He’ll face the Diamondbacks at home next Saturday.     • Stellar in 2024 debut
      Means (1-0) earned the win in Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Reds, allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight without issuing a walk.

      Advice: A setback with Means' surgically repaired left elbow put the southpaw on the injured list to begin the 2024 season. After an extended, six-start rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk, Means transitioned beautifully to the big-league rotation, blanking the Reds in Great American Ball Park while racking up 19 swings and misses on 85 pitches. The Cincinnati offense has been in a bad way, but regardless it was an impressive return for Means and he's fully built up heading into his next projected matchup at home against the Diamondbacks. An All-Star in 2019, Means has thrown a no-hitter in the majors and owns a 3.67 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 387.1 career innings over parts of seven seasons. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:56 pm

      Hader issued a walk over a scoreless frame Friday. He struck out two and earned a save over the Mariners.

      Advice: Hader needed 22 pitches (13 strikes) to finish off the 5-3 win, coming away with his third save as an Astro. It was his first save since April 19 and he's converted three of his four opportunities so far. He's produced an impressive 23:7 K:BB despite an unsightly 5.93 ERA through 13.2 frames.     • Josh Hader locks down third save of season
      Josh Hader fired a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to pick up a save Friday against the Mariners.

      Advice: Hader did walk a batter to put the tying run at the plate, but the left-hander was able to get a pair of strikeouts to lower his ERA to 5.93 and also pick up his third save.     • Jordan Hicks walks four in loss to Phillies
      Jordan Hicks gave up four runs — two earned — and walked four in four innings Friday in a loss to the Phillies.

      Advice: Improved control has been a big key for Hicks in his successful run in the Giants rotation, but this is the second time in his last three starts that he’s walked four batters, giving him14 walks in 38 innings for the year. The loss tonight was his first, and he still has a nice 1.89 ERA for the season. Still, he doesn’t seem like a great mixed-league option from here. Rotoworld Friday, 7:45 pm
       
    • Stuck with first loss
      Hicks (2-1) took the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: The Phillies scored three times off Hicks in the third inning before tacking on another run in the fourth, handing the right-hander his first loss of the year. While the four runs against Hicks were a season high, he's still yet to allow more than two earned runs through seven starts. Hicks still sports a stellar 1.89 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB across 38 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Colorado.       Snell (thigh) will throw around 50 pitches Saturday during a bullpen session, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

      Advice: Manager Bob Melvin said if all goes well, the team will make a decision on whether Snell will have a rehab assignment or face hitters in live batting practice next. It was already anticipated that Snell would need more than the minimum 15 days on the injured list with his Grade 2 adductor strain, so a mid-May return is still the best-case scenario.
