      Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters that Nick Pivetta (elbow) is expected to come off the injured list to start Wednesday against Atlanta.

      Advice: That’s a tough return, but it’s also welcome news for fantasy managers who are waiting for Pivetta to come off the shelf.     • Looks set to return Wednesday
      Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Pivetta (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday's game in Atlanta, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

      Advice: Cora stopped short of confirming Pivetta for Wednesday, as the right-hander presumably needs to check out fine following a bullpen session Sunday or Monday before the Red Sox formally clear him to rejoin the rotation. Pivetta, who has been on the shelf since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain, made a rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on Thursday and gave up four earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five across three innings. Despite the less-than-stellar results, the Red Sox were apparently encouraged by how Pivetta felt physically in the outing and are eager to bring him back into the big-league rotation this week.     • Blows save in extras
      Iglesias blew the save Friday against the Dodgers. He allowed one unearned run on one hit and no walks with no strikeouts over one inning.

      Advice: Iglesias entered the bottom of the 10th inning tasked with retiring the top of the Dodgers order to earn a save. He promptly retired Mookie Betts on two pitches before yielding a game-tying RBI single to Shohei Ohtani. However, since it was the automatic runner that scored, the Atlanta closer escaped Friday night without a hit to his ERA, which now stands at 2.03 over 13.1 innings.       Blanco allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six during a win over Seattle.

      Advice: All the damage against Blanco came via the long ball, with Jorge Polanco going deep in the third inning followed by Dylan Moore in the fifth. Entering Friday's start, Blanco had given up just two homers through 32.2 frames. It was the first time this season he's allowed more than two runs in an outing but he still produced his fifth quality start. Blanco owns a terrific 2.09 ERA with a 36:16 K:BB.       Ronel Blanco was charged for three runs over six innings Friday in a no-decision against the Mariners.

      Advice: He gave up five hits while walking three and striking out six. Blanco gave up a pair of homers Friday, one of them being a solo shot by Jorge Polanco and the other a two-run homer by Dylan Moore. The right-hander exited with a 3-1 deficit, but the Astros were able to score four after he left to keep him off the hook.       Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Pivetta (elbow) won't require another rehab start and will return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start with Boston, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

      Advice: Pivetta surrendered four runs over three-plus innings during his lone rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. Despite his subpar performance, the Red Sox will waste no time returning the 31-year-old right-hander to their rotation, which has been hit hard by injuries this season. Pivetta has given up one earned run across 11 innings through two starts in 2024. He appears in line to make his return to the rotation in Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday.       Advice: Pivetta threw 62 pitches in the first and possibly only start while on a rehab assignment. He ran into immediate trouble, walking the first two batters of the game then giving up three straight singles. He settled in after that, retiring the next nine batters, before he was pulled following another two walks to lead off the fourth inning. "Repertoire felt good, just wasn't throwing a ton of strikes," Pivetta told Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. "I have some mechanical adjustments to work on but we'll be fine." Red Sox manager Alex Cora previously indicated Pivetta would need just one rehab start, and if that's the case, the right-hander is on schedule for next week's two-game set against Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday.       Doval earned a save against the Red Sox on Thursday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

      Advice: Doval entered in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run lead and retired the side in order on 14 pitches. He's given up just two runs over 11 innings since a rough season debut against San Diego on March 30.       Advice: As expected, Pivetta threw 62 pitches (36 strikes) in his rehab outing and figures to be ready to take the ball next week against the Braves, most likely on Tuesday, down at Truist Park.
