  • Sent to Miami in Arraez deal
    The Padres traded Go, Dillon Head, Nathan Martorella and Jakob Marsee to the Marlins on Friday in exchange for Luis Arraez, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: The Padres signed Go to a two-year deal in January with the expectation that he would serve as a high-leverage option out of the bullpen. However, a poor performance during spring training caused the 25-year-old reliever to be optioned to Triple-A and later demoted again to Double-A San Antonio, where he has posted a 4.38 ERA and 1.49 WHIP alongside a 15:4 K:BB through 12.1 innings. The Marlins may be willing to give Go a chance in the majors given their depleted pitching staff and relatively weak bullpen, but his Double-A stats don't spark much optimism.   • Collects first save
    Beeks struck out two and gave up a solo home run in two-thirds of an inning Friday, recording his first save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Pirates.

    Advice: With Justin Lawrence (paternity leave) away from the team, Rockies manager Bud Black called on Jake Bird to get the final out of the eighth inning and the first of the ninth, but the right-hander needed 25 pitches to do it. Black then turned to Beeks to close things out with a two-run lead, but the southpaw made things dicey by immediately serving up a solo shot to Oneil Cruz before getting the job done. Lawrence should be back by the end of the weekend, and Beeks has never recorded more than two saves in a season in his career, but he does appear to have earned a spot in Colorado's high-leverage crew.   • Marcus Stroman walks five in no-decision Friday
    Marcus Stroman struggled with his command in a no-decision against the Tigers on Friday night, allowing one run on three hits and five walks over his 5 1/3 innings of work.

    Advice: The right-hander struck out three batters on the evening. While he allowed plenty of traffic on the basepaths, the only run that scored against him came as Colt Keith worked a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning. Stroman got just four swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 24 percent. The 33-year-old hurler will carry a 3.41 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 35/20 K/BB ratio (37 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Astros. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago
     
  • Jason Foley implodes in ninth inning on Friday
    Jason Foley suffered a brutal blown save against the Yankees on Friday night, surrendering hits to all four batters that he faced.

    Advice: Yikes. In what was a terrific pitcher’s duel that had the Tigers leading 1-0 heading to the ninth inning, Foley immediately got off on the wrong foot by allowing a leadoff single to Aaron Judge. Alex Verdugo then dropped down a bunt single with third baseman Zach McKinstry playing back, setting the stage for Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton then ripped an RBI double into right field on the second pitch he saw, and Anthony Rizzo followed with a run-scoring single to walk it off. Foley is probably still fine in the ninth inning, as he has converted nine of his first 10 save chances, though his 1.54 WHIP leads much to be desired. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago
     
  • Reese Olson terrific in tough-luck no-decision
    Reese Olson was terrific again in a tough-luck no-decision against the Yankees on Friday night, scattering two hits and two walks over five scoreless innings.

    Advice: The right-hander punched out five batters on the night. While he was able to keep the Yankees’ offense completely at bay, the Tigers were only able to generate one run of support for him, which cost him his victory as Jason Foley imploded in the ninth inning. Olson generated seven whiffs on 88 pitches on the night — four of those on his slider — while registering a CSW of 31 percent. The 24-year-old hurler somehow sits at 0-4 on the season despite a stellar 2.70 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 31/13 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings through his first six starts.   • Blanks Bucs for first win
    Quantrill (1-3) picked up the win Friday, scattering three hits over 7.2 scoreless innings in a 3-2 victory over the Pirates. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

    Advice: For the first time all season, the Rockies never trailed at any point in the game, and that was largely thanks to Quantrill. The right-hander generated 34 called or swinging strikes over his 99 pitches as he set a new season high in strikeouts -- in fact, the nine Ks were his highest single-game total since 2021, when he fanned 10 Tigers while with Cleveland. The quality start was Quantrill's fourth of the year in seven trips to the mound, but he got tagged for 15 runs over 14 frames in the other three. He'll take a 4.31 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 26:14 K:BB through 39.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Giants. Rotowire.com 26 minutes ago
     
  • Brady Singer whiffs eight, allows one run vs Texas
    Brady Singer struck out eight over six innings of one-run baseball against the Rangers on Friday, but didn’t factor into the decision.

    Advice: Unfortunately for Singer, Michael Lorenzen held the Royals to just one run while he was in the game. Fortunately for Singer and fans of Kansas City, they scored the next six runs, but alas, no victory. Fantasy managers do get plenty of strikeouts, however, and he lowered his ERA to 2.45 in the process. Singer will try and keep the good run going when he faces the Brewers on Wednesday.   • Michael Lorenzen holds Royals to one run over six
    Michael Lorenzen surrendered one run over six innings without factoring into the decision Friday against the Royals.

    Advice: Lorenzen and Brady Singer were both excellent in what was a pitching duel for the first six innings. Lorenzen allowed just four hits, and while he did walk three, he was able to escape jams outside of a homer from Hunter Renfroe in the fifth. The 32-year-old bounced back from his five-run outing against the Reds last week, and it lowers his ERA on the season to 3.52.   • Quantrill gets first win as Rockies’ streak ends
    Cal Quantrill fanned nine in 7 2/3 scoreless innings Friday to pick up his first win as the Rockies topped the Pirates 3-2.

    Advice: The streak is over; the Rockies had trailed in all 31 games this season until tonight, when they went up 3-0 in the sixth and managed to hang on in spite of a two-run homer in the ninth. Quantrill came into this one with a 5.34 ERA and a 17/14 K/BB ratio in 32 innings. The nine strikeouts are his high total since Aug. 2021.
