    • Hit hard in Friday's loss
      Maeda (2-2) took the loss Friday as the Tigers fell 7-3 to the Red Sox, coughing up five runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: It could have been a lot worse for the veteran right-hander. While five of the eight hits he surrendered went for extra bases, three of them were doubles high off the Green Monster that nearly left Fenway Park completely. Maeda took a big step back after blanking the Blue Jays over five innings in his first start off the IL back on May 24, but Friday's performance was more in line with his 2024 campaign so far. Maeda will take a 6.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB through 40.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week against the Rangers. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

      Pete Alonso went 1-for-5 with an RBI on Friday against the Diamondbacks in his return to the Mets’ lineup.

      Advice: Alonso was able to come off the bench and deliver a pinch-hit double during Thursday’s series opener, less than 24 hours after being diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right hand.       Mariners manager Scott Servais said late Friday that Bryan Woo (arm) is expected to make his next start.

      Advice: Servais told reporters Woo was lifted after just 66 pitches since he’s been dealing with some “arm-stuff” and didn’t throw his usual between-starts bullpen session earlier this week. No word on the specific issue Woo is dealing with, but it doesn’t sound serious. It appears likely Seattle is merely exercising some caution with the 24-year-old righty, who has been phenomenal when healthy this season, but there’s zero indication that he’ll miss his next start on Thursday against the Athletics.       Woo allowed three hits and struck out two without walking a batter over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Friday.

      Advice: Woo needed just 66 pitches (47 strikes) to complete six frames, but that was all for his start. Trent Thornton and Taylor Saucedo combined to allow four runs in the seventh inning, wiping out the Mariners' lead and Woo's chance to earn his third win of the year, but this was still a stellar outing for the 24-year-old. He's now at a 1.30 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 28:2 K:BB over 27.2 innings across five starts. The Mariners continue to manage his pitch count, but he's completed six innings in each of his last three starts thanks to his efficiency. Woo is projected for a road start in Oakland next week.       Advice: Woo threw just 66 pitches with 47 of them landing in the strike zone, but the Mariners continue to play things cautiously with the 24-year-old in his second MLB season and coming off an injury that caused him to miss a month. Unfortunately it didn’t work out for Seattle, as the 4-0 lead he entered with quickly became a 4-4 game on a grand slam for Jo Adell. Still, another strong outing for Woo that sees his ERA fall to a glistening 1.30. He isn’t missing a ton of bats, but his ability to avoid hard contact has been elite thus far.       Arraez went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored in Friday's victory over Kansas City.

      Advice: Arraez was ever himself, lacing four singles for his fourth four-hit night with San Diego since joining them on May 4. Overall, it is the 27-year-old's fifth four-hit game of the season as he had one in Miami too. He also managed to collect his ninth and tenth RBI as a Padre with a two-run RBI knock in the eighth inning.       Luis Arraez finished 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored as the Padres topped the Royals 11-8 on Friday.

      Advice: The Padres had just two extra-base hits, both of which were doubles, and two walks tonight, but they collected 16 singles and went an incredible 11-for-18 with RISP.       Kenta Maeda struggled in Friday night’s loss to the Red Sox, giving up five runs on eight hits over his 4 2/3 innings.

      Advice: On the plus side, Maeda was able to punch out six batters on the night while allowing just two walks. He was able to keep the Red Sox off the board through the first three innings, but they broke through for four runs in the fourth inning — including a three-run blast off the bat of Ceddanne Rafaela. Maeda got 11 swings and misses on 85 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll look to improve upon a troublesome 6.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 30/12 K/BB ratio (40 1/3 innings) when he toes the slab against the Rangers in Arlington on Wednesday.
