      Pfaadt (1-3) took the loss Friday as the Diamondbacks fell 4-2 to the Orioles, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

      Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander produced his third straight quality start and fourth of the season on 88 pitches (56 strikes), but Pfaadt generated only six swinging strikes as he came up empty in the strikeout department for the first time in 26 big-league starts. In fact, he'd never fanned fewer than three batters in an outing before Friday.       Abbott (2-4) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Giants.

      Advice: Abbott gave up a solo home run to Thairo Estrada in the first inning and an RBI single to Tyler Fitzgerald in the second. After that, Abbott was able to settle in to earn his first win in five starts. The two strikeouts were a season low, but he's walked just one batter over his last three outings combined, though he's also given up five homers in that span. The 24-year-old has a 3.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB over 43 innings across eight starts this season. Abbott is projected to make his next start on the road in Arizona.       Andrew Abbott surrendered two runs over five innings in a win Friday against the Giants.

      Advice: Abbott didn’t have his best swing-and-miss stuff, as he struck out only two while throwing 88 pitches. He didn’t issue a walk, however, and after giving up runs in the first and second inning, he settled down quite nicely. The southpaw sees his ERA tick up slightly from 3.32 to 3.35, but all things considered, this was a good outing for Abbott. He’ll face the D-Backs next week in Arizona.       Brandon Pfaadt dropped to 1-3 after allowing three runs in six innings Friday against the Orioles.

      Advice: Pfaadt managed to turn in a solid outing despite going without a strikeout tonight. He had never fanned fewer than three batters in 26 major league starts. Pfaadt’s ERA stands at 4.60.       Joe Ryan pitched seven innings of one-run ball Friday in the Twins’ 3-2 defeat of the Blue Jays.

      Advice: The lone run was a 365-foot homer from Isiah Kiner-Falefa. The ball barely rated as hard hit, leaving his bat at 95.5 mph, and was a homer in only 11 ballparks. It’s Ryan’s fourth straight quality start, and he still hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in a game this season. Alas, the win tonight was only his second. Ryan will face the Yankees next.       Gray (4-2) took the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings.

      Advice: The Brewers got to Gray early and often, scoring three times off the right-hander in the first inning before tacking on single runs in the second, fourth and fifth frames. Gray allowed season highs in hits (seven), runs (six) and home runs (three) in the contest and also failed to go at least six innings for the first time in his last five starts.       Sonny Gray was torched for six runs over five innings on Thursday in a loss to the Brewers.

      Advice: Gray was tagged for a season-high three round-trippers in this one after allowing just one long ball in his previous five starts combined. The dismal outing also snapped a five-start streak in which he allowed two earned runs or fewer to kick off his Cardinals debut. The only positives here were that he struck out six and only issued one walk. He’ll carry a pristine 2.29 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 44/6 K/BB ratio across 35 1/3 innings (six starts) into a favorable road tilt on Tuesday against the Angels. Rotoworld Thursday, 8:20 pm

      Perez allowed four earned runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out five across five innings Wednesday against the Angels. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: Perez worked five effective innings, allowing only two earned runs. However, he allowed the first two hitters he faced in the sixth inning to reach base, who then came around to score after Luis Ortiz entered the game. Perez has faded in the sixth inning in consecutive starts, allowing five earned runs combined in the frame.
