    • Fans eight in no-decision
Cortes came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: The southpaw was at his baffling best, tossing 68 of 97 pitches for strikes and leaving the mound in line for his fifth win of the season. A blown save by Clay Holmes forced Cortes to settle for his ninth quality start, and he'll take a 3.41 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 106:20 K:BB through 111 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Tampa Bay. • Clutch homer versus Yankees
Yoshida went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-3 extra-inning win over the Yankees.

Advice: With the Red Sox down 3-1 in the ninth inning, Yoshida crushed a Clay Holmes sinker deep to right field, tying the game and setting the stage for further heroics from Ceddanne Rafaela in the 10th. It was Yoshida's third homer of the season and first since April 20, snapping a 21-game drought that included a six-week absence due to a thumb injury. The 30-year-old may be feeling 100 percent again, however -- over his last nine games, he's batting .364 (12-for-33) with two doubles in addition to Friday's long ball. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
    • Fighting slump
Candelario went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 5-4 loss to Detroit.

Advice: The steal was the fourth of the season for Candelario, who swiped a career-high eight bags in 2023. The corner infielder/designated hitter, who reversed a season-opening slump in June, is back on skids. Candelario is 3-for-28 with a 30-percent strikeout rate over the last seven games. • Edwin Díaz finishes serving 10-game suspension
Mets activated RHP Edwin Díaz from the restricted list.

Advice: Díaz has finished serving an automatic 10-game suspension handed down by the league after he was ejected back on June 23 for using an illegal foreign substance. The 30-year-old will be back in New York’s bullpen for Saturday’s contest against the Pirates. Rotoworld Today, 4:40 am

    • Locks down 14th save
Phillips struck out the side to earn the save in Friday's 8-5 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Phillips needed just 12 pitches (nine strikes) to set the Brewers down in order to protect a three-run lead. It's an encouraging sign, as he had allowed a run in each of his last two outings. Phillips is up to 14 saves and one hold through 26.2 innings this season, and he's maintained a strong 2.03 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:16 pm
    • Ceddanne Rafaela homers in 10th to lead Red Sox
After Masataka Yoshida’s homer tied it in the ninth, Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two-run homer in the 10th to propel the Red Sox past the Yankees 5-3 on Friday.

Advice: Yoshida hit a game-tying homer off Clay Holmes, and Rafaela followed with a go-ahead blast off Tommy Kahnle in the 10th. It was Rafaela’s 10th homer, which is impressive for a 23-year-old with such middling exit velocity numbers. Better plate discipline would be nice, but since Rafaela has proved adept at shortstop and in center field, he seems like a long to become a long-term regular. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:58 pm

    • Nestor Cortes strikes out eight against Red Sox
Nestor Cortes held the Red Sox to one run in six innings and struck out eight in the Yankees’ 3-1 victory Friday.

Advice: Cortes gave up 410-, 397- and 386-foot flyballs, but Yankee Stadium managed to hold two of them, with only Romy Gonzalez leaving the yard. Cortes remained stuck at 4-7 while improving his now 3.41 ERA and 105/20 K/BB ratio through 111 innings. He’ll get the Rays next time out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:58 pm

    • Evan Phillips strikes out side in 14th save
Evan Phillips struck out the side while picking up a save Friday for the Dodgers in their 8-5 win over the Brewers.

Advice: Phillips was filthy while picking up the save, needing only 12 pitches to fan the side. He still hasn’t blown a save in 2024, and his 14 stops are more impressive when you consider he missed close to a month with his hamstring strain. Especially when you consider who he plays for on top of his talent, Phillips should remain an elite closing option for the foreseeable future. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:45 pm
    • Fills stat sheet in loss
Garcia went 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in a 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: Garcia hit an RBI single in the first inning, a solo home run in the third and another single in the eighth. He later added another base hit and stole second in the 10th frame. The 24-year-old followed up a two-homer game July 3 with his second four-hit effort of the season. While he continues to sit against left-handed pitching, Garcia is hitting .271 with 10 homers, 42 RBI, 29 runs scored and 12 steals in a quietly productive 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:29 pm
