    Candelario started at first base and went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Arizona.

    Advice: Candelario moved across the diamond from third base to cover first for Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand), who is expected to miss four-to-six weeks. Candelario is one of several Cincinnati bats off to a slow start; the three-hit night raised his season average to .206, just the second day it's been above .200.   • Mountcastle slugs two-run homer, Orioles win in 12
    Ryan Mountcastle slugged a two-run homer in the 11th inning on Wednesday night, helping to propel the Orioles to a wild 7-6 victory over the Nationals in 12 innings.

    Advice: With one out left to get in the ninth inning, the Orioles had a comfortable 3-1 lead, then insanity ensued. Neither team scored in the 10th inning, then Mountcastle clobbered a 386-foot (98.8 mph EV) two-run shot off of Hunter Harvey in the 11th that gave the O’s a two-run lead. The Nationals would answer in their half of the 11th. The O’s then pushed two runs across in the 12th and allowed just one to escape with a victory.   • Tyler Soderstrom slugs two-run homer vs. Rangers
    Tyler Soderstrom went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer on Wednesday against the Rangers.

    Advice: Soderstrom got the call to join Oakland for Wednesday’s doubleheader against Texas and made the most of his start. After knocking a base hit in the second inning, he took Jack Leiter deep for a two-run homer in the fourth. Soderstrom had an injury scare in the eighth after taking a pitch off his knee, but was able to stay in the game.   • David Fry hits game-tying homer in ninth
    David Fry hit a game-tying homer off Andrew Chafin in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Tigers.

    Advice: Some curious bullpen management from the Tigers today got Fry a good matchup against a lefty in the ninth and he wound up with his second homer. This was actually a rare start against a righty for Fry, but he went 0-for-3 against them. The homer off Chafin made him 10-for-24 with four extra-base hits, 10 walks and two HBPs versus lefties this season. That’s a ridiculous .595 OBP.   • Moving into regular role
    Newman will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Reds.

    Advice: Newman will make his third straight start at shortstop -- all against right-handed pitching -- and looks to have supplanted Blaze Alexander as the Diamondbacks' preferred option at the position while the team waits for Geraldo Perdomo (knee) to return from the injured list. Though he's turned in a poor .559 OPS through 62 plate appearances with Arizona this season, Newman has been a much more polished defender at shortstop than Alexander.   • Brandon Drury exits game with hamstring injury
    Brandon Drury left Wednesday’s game against the Pirates with left hamstring tightness.

  • Exits game with tight hamstring
    Drury was removed from Wednesday's game against the Pirates after six innings due to left hamstring tightness. He went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run and one RBI prior to departing.

    Advice: Drury previously contended with the same injury back in mid-April. He missed a few games with the hamstring injury at the time, and he may not have fully healed up from the injury.     Athletics recalled C Tyler Soderstrom from Triple-A Las Vegas.

    The Athletics recalled Soderstrom from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

    Advice: Soderstrom has slashed .245/.353/.529 with seven home runs over 27 games at Las Vegas this season. The 22-year-old managed just a .472 OPS and 31.2 percent strikeout rate with the Athletics in 2023.
