• Josh Lowe (oblique) nearing return to Rays
Josh Lowe (oblique) told reporters on Friday that his rehab is going great and that he feels that he’s ready to be activated from the injured list as soon as the Rays decide to do so.

Advice: The dynamic 26-year-old outfielder has played in six games during his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham, hitting .227/.346/.364 with a homer, five RBI and a 10/4 K/BB ratio over 26 plate appearances. It sounds like he could be back with the big league club any day now. Rotoworld 3 minutes ago

  • Optioned to El Paso
The Padres optioned Batten to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Advice: Batten didn't appear in a game during his latest stint in the big leagues, and he will now return to the minors as Machado returns from paternity leave. Batten is slashing .224/.318/.293 across 66 plate appearances at Triple-A. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago

  • Starting at third base Friday
Machado (personal) was added to the active roster Friday. He is starting at third base while hitting in the cleanup spot for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Machado was placed on the paternity list Monday and ended up missing the Padres' last four games. What's notable about Friday's game is that Machado is starting at third base for the first time since getting surgery on his right elbow in October, while Graham Pauley serves as the designated hitter. Machado's return is a welcome one with rookie Jackson Merrill missing his second straight game due to a lingering groin issue. Machado is slashing .260/.324/.417 with four home runs and 12 RBI over 105 plate appearances to start the season. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago
  • Hamstring partially torn
Rendon said Friday that he has a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Rendon landed on the injured list Sunday with a left hamstring strain, but it appears his injury is more severe than the Angels initially thought. There is no timetable in place for his return, but he will certainly be sidelined for longer than the 10-day minimum. Miguel Sano been serving as Los Angeles' primary third baseman since Rendon got injured and should continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

  • Absence continues Friday
Fraley (illness) is out of the lineup for Friday's game at Texas.

Advice: Fraley is out of the starting nine for a seventh straight game as he continues to recover from an illness. Jonathan India will receive another turn at designated hitter while Santiago Espinal starts at second base. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

  • Max Kepler sits against left-hander Friday night
Max Kepler is not in the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s ballgame against the Angels.

Advice: It’s the second straight game that Kepler has sat against a left-hander — this time Patrick Sandoval. While Kepler didn’t show massive platoon splits during the 2023 campaign, it’s something to at least keep an eye on for fantasy managers. Manuel Margot will start in his place in right field and bat third on Friday evening in Los Angeles. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

  • Rendon dealing with high grade hamstring tear
Anthony Rendon told reporters on Friday that he’s dealing with a high grade partial tear of his left hamstring.

Advice: There’s still no timetable on how long he’ll be shelved for, but he’s not going to be back any time soon. Expect the Angels to continue to mix and match at third base in his absence, with Miguel Sano, Luis Rengifo and Ehire Adrianza all helping to carry the load there. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Giancarlo Stanton getting night off on Friday
Giancarlo Stanton is absent from the Yankees’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Brewers.

Advice: The 34-year-old slugger will get a night off after starting five straight games for the Bombers. Aaron Judge will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Friday night while Trent Grisham draws a rare start in center field and will bat ninth against Colin Rea and the Brewers. • Not starting Friday
Merrill (groin) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was taken out of the lineup ahead of Thursday's loss to the Rockies as a precaution, and he was expected to be back Friday, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. It appears the groin injury is still lingering, however, and the rookie outfielder will not start for a second consecutive game. With Merrill out of the lineup, Jose Azocar will start in center field, Jurickson Profar will be in left field and Manny Machado will make his return from his paternity leave to start at third base.
