      Advice: The right-hander tied his season high in strikeouts while generating 33 called or swinging strikes among his 91 pitches. Schmidt has been remarkably consistent to begin the season, allowing between one and three runs in every start and completing five innings in six of seven outings, although he has yet to last a full six frames.       Max Scherzer (back, thumb) is currently in a holding pattern when it comes to his rehab process.

      Advice: The 39-year-old right-hander was scratched from a rehab outing earlier in the week due to inflammation in his thumb ligament. While that issue hasn’t gotten any worse, it also hasn’t improved over the last couple of days, causing the Rangers to kind of put everything on hold. They’ll continue to take things day-to-day until he feels improvement and is ready to resume playing catch again.     • Carlos Correa plates two as Twins defeat Red Sox
      Carlos Correa went 0-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs on Saturday as the Twins triumphed over the Red Sox.

      Advice: Correa drove in the Twins’ first run in the opening inning with an RBI ground out off of Brennan Bernadino. He then added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning that extended their lead to 3-1.       Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer Saturday to help the Yankees to a 5-3 win over the Tigers.

      Advice: Rizzo extended the Yankees’ lead to 5-1 with a three-run blast off Casey Mize. The 34-year-old also singled, and the pair of hits bumps his average to .263.       Clarke Schmidt allowed three runs while striking out seven over five innings to get a win Saturday over the Tigers.

      Advice: Schmidt allowed a leadoff homer to Riley Greene, and then the right-hander allowed a pair of runs in the fourth. In between — and an inning after — the right-hander was solid while giving up four hits and not issuing a walk. The overall result is just so-so, but Schmidt looked better than the line suggests. He’s back on the bump. He faces the Rays on Friday, and Schmidt will take a 3.50 ERA into that matchup. Rotoworld Saturday, 12:47 pm
       
    • Collects third win
      Schreiber (3-0) earned the win Friday versus the Rangers, allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout in a scoreless inning.

      Advice: Schreiber erased a walk with a double play, then loaded the bases again before striking out Marcus Semien to end the top of the seventh inning. The Royals rallied for six runs in their half of the frame, and Schreiber ended up with the win. He's pitched 5.1 consecutive scoreless innings, and he's been scored on just once this season, pitching to 0.59 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB over 15.1 innings. He's getting some good luck, as indicated by a .227 BABIP and 3.06 FIP, but the right-hander looks poised to play an important high-leverage role for the Royals throughout the year.
