      Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Merrill Kelly (shoulder) will start a throwing program next week.

      Advice: The right-hander has apparently been progressing well in his recovery from a right shoulder strain and is now on the cusp of resuming baseball work. Kelly will require some time to build his arm up before progressing to mound work and eventually a rehab assignment, so he shouldn't be expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks until sometime in July.       Suarez earned a save against the Marlins on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

      Advice: Suarez was summoned in the ninth frame to protect a one-run lead and had no trouble doing so, retiring the side in order on 14 pitches. The right-hander came into the campaign with a loose grip on the ninth-inning role for the Padres but has emerged as one of the league's top first-half closers with 16 saves (in 16 chances) while posting a 0.73 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 24:5 K:BB over 24.2 innings.       Advice: Cronenworth’s bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning was the difference in the Padres’ 2-1 victory over the Marlins. He continues to play second base after the Padres’ trade for Luis Arraez. Cronenworth’s average is up to .271 and his OPS is up to .806, both of which would be career-highs.       Adames went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Monday's victory over the Cubs.

      Advice: Adames popped his first home run since May 7 when he crushed a 427-foot, three-run shot off Hayden Wesneski in the eighth inning. The Brewers shortstop hopes the homer turns his month around, as he entered the game slashing .213/.253/.404 over 99 plate appearances in May.
