      Cease (5-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Rockies, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight over 5.2 innings.

      Advice: Cease blanked the Rockies through three before Ryan McMahon took him deep to lead off the fourth. He then ran into some trouble in the sixth, allowing an additional run before being pulled with two outs in the inning and being charged with a third run before the frame concluded. It was just the second time this year Cease has failed to complete six innings and his first since his season debut. The strikeouts continue to pile up, as he's punched out at least eight in four of his last five starts and is second in the majors with 68 over 55 innings.     • Dylan Cease fans eight in loss to Rockies
      Dylan Cease surrendered three runs in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Rockies.

      Advice: The third run came after he was pulled in the sixth. Cease struck out eight and gave up just four hard-hit balls, although one was a homer. It’s just the second time this season that he’s failed to complete six innings. Ideally, he would have done better than this with the matchup against a terrible offense at Petco Park, but there’s very little to be disappointed about here so far.     • Reynaldo López (back) likely to make next start
      Reynaldo López tossed five scoreless innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

      Advice: López certainly would’ve gone deeper into the contest, but he was lifted for precautionary reasons following just 71 pitches (50 strikes) after his back tightened up on him. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern with Braves manager Brian Snitker telling reporters afterwards that he doesn’t expect him to miss his next start.       Lopez was lifted from Monday's start against the Cubs early due to back tightness, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. He didn't factor into the decision after allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings.

      Advice: Lopez was removed from the game firing 71 pitches, and he likely would've gone back out for the sixth had his back not become an issue.       Castillo (4-5) picked up the win over the Athletics on Sunday, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out eight over six innings.

      Advice: Both runs allowed by Castillo came via the long ball, with Max Schuemann and Abraham Toro taking him deep in consecutive innings. Aside from that, Castillo limited the damage to just base hits and tossed his sixth straight quality start, which now puts him in a tie for fifth-most in baseball.       Luis Castillo picked up his fourth victory of the season on Sunday, limiting the Athletics to two runs on seven hits over his six innings of work.

      Advice: The 31-year-old right-hander punched out eight batters on the afternoon and didn’t issue a base on balls. Both of the runs that Castillo allowed came via the long ball — with Max Schuemann blasting a solo shot in the fifth inning and Abraham Toro crushing one in the sixth inning. He got 14 whiffs on 100 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 30 percent.       Kimbrel (4-1) picked up the win in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings victory over the Diamondbacks, striking out one in a scoreless 11th inning.

      Advice: He hit Christian Walker with his first pitch of the frame, but Kimbrel quickly escaped the jam by fanning Jake McCarthy and then inducing a double-play grounder from Eugenio Suarez. The veteran reliever then got rewarded when Jordan Westburg walked it off in the bottom of the inning. Yennier Cano worked the ninth inning at home in a tie game -- usage normally reserved for a team's closer -- while Danny Coulombe handled the 10th, so Kimbrel may not be back in the top spot in the O's bullpen just yet, but efforts like this should help him get there.
