He made a quick impact in Texas with his first-inning homer, perhaps washing away his 0-for-2 performance in the All-Star Game in the same park.       Hudson (back) allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox.

      Advice: Hudson was sidelined by a stiff back heading into the All-Star break, but it appears the time off served him well. He hasn't allowed a run over six innings in July, adding a 7:3 K:BB with two saves, one hold and a 1-0 record this month.     • Daniel Hudon picks up save against Red Sox
      Daniel Hudson picked up a save against the Red Sox on Friday with a scoreless ninth inning.

      Advice: Hudson was warming up to pitch the ninth with the Dodgers trailing 1-0, but after Freddie Freeman hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth, the Dodgers decided to let Hudson finish things off.     • Picks up another win Sunday
      Sale (13-3) earned the win over the Padres on Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings.

      Advice: Sale let up a run in the opening frame but was able to limit the damage to just a run after allowing three base hits in the inning. He silenced the Padres from there to pick up his league-leading 13th win and his third consecutive victory. He becomes the first Atlanta pitcher since 2000 to head into the All-Star break with 13 wins.       Gilbert tossed seven scoreless innings Sunday against the Angels, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out nine. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: Gilbert was magnificent once again and had another strong start wasted by the bullpen. Gilbert exited with a 2-0 lead that vanished in the eighth inning after two walks and a three-run homer by Jo Adell put the Angels in front for good. Sunday was the fifth time this season that Gilbert did not allow a run in a start and his nine strikeouts tied a season high. The 27-year-old will head into the break with a 2.79 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 124:25 K:BB in 132.1 innings. Since he pitched Sunday, Gilbert will not be available to throw in Tuesday's All-Star Game.     • Logan Gilbert goes seven scoreless in no-decision
      Logan Gilbert shut out the Angels for seven innings, striking out nine, in a no-decision Sunday.

      Advice: Gilbert allowed just two hits before leaving with a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, it disappeared immediately in the eighth, as Ryne Stanek hurt himself on a leadoff walk and Austin Voth went on to give up a three-run homer to take a loss. It’s the fifth time this season that Gilbert has gone without allowing a run.       Rooker went 2-for-2 with a pair of two-run home runs, an RBI sacrifice fly and a walk in an 18-3 win over the Phillies on Sunday.

      Advice: Rooker ignited the Athletics' eight-homer barrage on the afternoon with the first of his two massive round trippers, slugging a 450-foot shot to center with JJ Bleday aboard in the fourth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. He'd one-up himself just two frames later, clearing the center-field wall at a distance of 452 feet to plate Bleday once again. The All-Star snub has been one of baseball's most fearsome hitters since the calendar flipped to July, hitting .488 (20-for-41) with three doubles, six home runs, 15 RBI, seven walks, three stolen bases and 15 runs.       Wheeler (back) played catch in the outfield Sunday and is expected to make his next start for the Phillies on July 22 or 23 versus the Twins in Minnesota, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: A bout with back spasms caused Wheeler to miss out on a start in the Phillies' final game before the All-Star break Sunday versus the Athletics, and it'll also prevent from making his second appearance in the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday. However, the back issue wasn't significant enough to force Wheeler to the injured list, and if he continues to remain free of setbacks in his throwing sessions over the next week, he should be ready to take the hill July 22 or 23 without any restrictions. With a 10-4 record, 2.70 ERA and 0.99 WHIP through 116.2 innings over his 16 outings on the season, Wheeler had been a leading candidate to start for the National League in the All-Star Game, but those duties will now fall to Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes.
