    Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara is pleading guilty to multiple charges including bank fraud and subscribing to a false tax return, according to the Associated Press.

    Advice: Mizuhara has agreed to plead guilty to bank and tax fraud in a case where federal prosecutors allege he stole nearly $17 million from Ohtani to pay off sports gambling debts to an illegal bookmaking operation.     Sewald earned the save in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Reds, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

    Advice: After allowing a home run to Tyler Stephenson in his season debut, Sewald looked much better in his first save chance Thursday, striking out Will Benson and Stephenson to close out the one-run victory. The 33-year-old Sewald is expected to step back in as Arizona's primary closer after missing the first month of the season with an oblique injury.     Ian Gibaut underwent anterior interosseous nerve release surgery on his right arm on Thursday.

    Advice: Reds manager David Bell declined to provide a return timetable for Gibaut, telling reporters that the hope is he’ll return at some point this season. There was some uncertainty surrounding the type of procedure the 30-year-old righty would wind up requiring and it ended up being the more invasive anterior nerve release procedure that carries a longer recovery timeline.   • Begins rehab assignment
    Urshela (hamstring) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

    Advice: Urshela has been on the injured list since April 20 due to a strained right hamstring, and he has now been given the go-ahead to test his hamstring in a competitive setting.     Kepler went 2-for-4 with a home run, two total RBI and two total runs scored in Thursday's 11-1 win over the Mariners.

  • Pirates summoning Nick Gonzales on Friday
    The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Andrew Destin reports the Pirates will promote infielder Nick Gonzalez on Friday.

    Advice: Gonzales will get the call back to the majors after batting .358 (43-for-120) with four homers in 137 plate appearances over 30 games this season for Triple-A Indianapolis.     Lopez (4-2) earned the win Thursday over the Mariners, allowing one run on four hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out 10.

    Advice: Lopez was excellent Thursday, holding Seattle to a lone second-inning run while recording a season-high 10 strikeouts. After an inconsistent start to the campaign, Lopez looks to be settling in -- he's won his last three starts while holding opponents to one run in back-to-back outings. He lowered his ERA to 3.89 with a 0.98 WHIP and a stellar 55:8 K:BB across eight starts (44 innings) this year. Lopez is currently slated for a home matchup with the Yankees in his next outing.   • Nick Ahmed to undergo imaging on injured wrist
    Nick Ahmed will undergo additional imaging on his left wrist.

    Advice: Ahmed was lifted from Thursday’s showdown against the Rockies with left wrist discomfort stemming from when he was hit by a 108-mph line drive back on April 27. It certainly sounds like a trip to the injured list to rest and recover could be in the cards for the 34-year-old defensive specialist.
