    • Will Smith homers, collects fourth four-hit game
Will Smith went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Advice: The 360-foot homer was actually just his third farthest hit ball of the night, as he also had a 374-foot sac fly and a 367-foot double. Smith has been spraying hits since day one, but the homer was just his second of the year. It’s his fourth four-hit game. Only three other players entered the day with even two of them (Mookie Betts with three and Yordan Alvarez and Ketel Marte with two apiece). Smith is batting .376/.413/.527 with 21 RBI in 24 games. • Struggling to get outs
Chapman (0-2) allowed two earned runs on two hits and no walks while striking out one to take the loss Thursday against the Brewers.

Advice: Chapman entered the game in the eighth inning to protect a one-run lead. He initially ran into some bad luck when a runner reached base on weak contact that didn't leave the infield, but the veteran lefty then threw a wild pitch and served up a home run to Gary Sanchez. Chapman began the season with 5.1 scoreless innings, but he's since allowed six earned runs across his last 2.2 frames and four appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 7:26 am
    • Throws bullpen session
Darvish (neck) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Darvish's bullpen session marked his first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list April 17 with neck tightness. Padres manager Mike Shildt indicated that Darvish wasn't throwing with full effort, saying the right-hander "was on the gas, but didn't have it to the floor." Darvish will likely require at least one or two more bullpen sessions before progressing to facing hitters and then perhaps heading out on a rehab assignment. There's no clear timeline yet for his return to San Diego's rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 6:57 am

    • Impressive again Thursday
Yamamoto (2-1) earned the win over Washington on Thursday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six scoreless innings.

Advice: Despite a rough season debut, Yamamoto has thus far lived up to the billing that netted him a 12-year, $325 million contract in the offseason, as he's tossed a scoreless outing of at least five frames in half of his six starts so far. The Japanese hurler's outing Thursday was his second straight quality start and lowered his season ERA to 3.54. Yamamoto also holds a 1.07 WHIP and 37:6 K:BB through 28 innings. • Swipes two bags Thursday
Doyle went 3-for-4 with three runs, a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases in Thursday's 10-9 victory over the Padres.

Advice: Doyle was busy on the basepaths Thursday, reaching base four times and scoring thrice. All three of his hits were singles, but he advanced to second via stolen base on two instances. Doyle has four multi-hit games over his past eight contests and is now slashing an impressive .330/.371/.527 on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:05 pm
    • Claims another save
Neris picked up the save Thursday against Houston, allowing two walks and no hits over a scoreless inning. He didn't log a strikeout.

Advice: Neris converted on his third save of the last five days and appears to have a decent hold on the Cubs' closing job, replacing Adbert Alzolay. However, Neris's walk issues persisted Thursday, handing out two free passes to bring his season total to nine in nine innings. His lack of control has been uncharacteristic, as Neris combined for just 48 walks in 141 appearances during his previous two seasons with the Astros. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:20 pm
    • Goes 4.1 scoreless
Verlander didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts over 4.1 scoreless innings against the Cubs.

Advice: Verlander couldn't complete five innings Thursday, getting pulled after 95 pitches. His inefficiency and lack of control led to four walks, but he kept each baserunner from reaching home plate. Through two starts Verlander owns a 1.74 ERA with 11 strikeouts across 10.1 innings. A matchup with the Guardians likely awaits next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 pm
    • Hitless as DH
Seager started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Seager, who was removed from Wednesday's game with a bruised shin, was available a day later for DH duties. It's unclear if he'll be limited to DH for a stretch. If so, Josh Smith will fill in at shortstop. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:52 pm

    • Goes deep in loss
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss Seattle.

Advice: Lowe reached down for a slider low in the zone to blast his first home run of the season. The first baseman has played in all five games since being activated off the injured list last Saturday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:42 pm
