    • Pirates will promote Paul Skenes to start Saturday
The Pirates announced Wednesday that top pitching prospect Paul Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his major league debut Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: The 21-year-old fireballer was making a mockery of the hitting at Triple-A with Indianapolis, registering a 0.99 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a ludicrous 45/8 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings of work in his seven starts. The Pirates are going to limit his innings this season, which will curtail some of his upside in the wins department, but he’s going to be an immediate impact contributor in all fantasy leagues and needs to be rostered everywhere at this point. • Bobby Witt Jr. homers to lead Royals past Brewers
Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-3 with a solo homer on Wednesday, propelling the Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Brewers.

Advice: Witt reached base safely in three of his four plate appearances and wound up scoring half of Kansas City’s runs in this one. His eight-inning blast off Brewers reliever Joel Payamps was his fifth of the season and turned out to be an important insurance run as Milwaukee attempted to mount a late comeback in the ensuing frame. It was the first time he’s gone deep in nearly one month since a two-homer outburst back on April 11. Rotoworld Today, 1:57 pm

    • Making MLB debut Saturday
The Pirates announced that Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Saturday against the Cubs at PNC Park.

Advice: Skenes likely won't be officially added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster until Saturday in advance of what should be one of the most highly anticipated MLB debuts for a pitching prospect in recent memory. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Skenes has been utterly dominant through his first seven starts at Indianapolis this season, pitching to a 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings. While he shouldn't be expected to immediately replicate the sterling ratios he produced in the minors, the flame-throwing right-hander should continue to make bats miss at a high clip as he makes the jump to the majors. The Pirates haven't revealed what the impending addition of Skenes means for the rest of the pitching staff, but the club could move to a six-man rotation to help keep the prized 21-year-old's workload in check during the 2024 season. • Out against left-hander
Carter is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Athletics.

Advice: The Athletics are sending southpaw JP Sears to the hill, so the left-handed hitting Carter will begin the early game of the twin bill on the bench. He should be back in the lineup for the nightcap versus right-hander Osvaldo Bido. Rotowire.com Today, 10:44 am

    • Gets aboard three times
Witt went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Witt has three multi-hit efforts and four steals over six contests in May, batting .350 (7-for-20) for the month. While other members of the Royals' lineup have plateaued or cooled off altogether, Witt is still going strong from the No. 2 hole. He's slashing .319/.385/.542 with four home runs, 13 steals, 19 RBI and 33 runs scored over 37 games. Rotowire.com Today, 10:08 am

    • Getting Wednesday off
Chourio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Chourio is hitting .357 with one stolen base over his first five games of May, but he's still slashing just .193/.233/.263 overall since April 16 and has seen his job security slip a bit as a result. The rookie will find himself on the bench Wednesday for the third time in seven games. Rotowire.com Today, 10:01 am
    • Returns to Triple-A
The Brewers optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Advice: After being called up from Nashville last Tuesday, Black got a look in a near-everyday role, starting in five of the Brewers' ensuing seven games. However, the 23-year-old managed just five hits while striking out eight times in 22 at-bats in his first taste of the big leagues, prompting the Brewers to pull the plug on him with Christian Yelich (back) returning from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Black should continue to see regular playing time at Nashville and will likely be one of the top options for a call-up if the Brewers need an extra corner infielder at any point. • Brewers option Tyler Black to Triple-A
Brewers optioned INF Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: This is a bit of a surprise. The Brewers needed to make a roster move for Christian Yelich and the team decided to send down Black. The 23-year-old had three hits in his first two games with the Brewers, but had just two hits in his past five games. He’ll head back down to Triple-A, but there’s a good chance he gets another opportunity with Milwaukee this season. Rotoworld Today, 9:44 am

    • Belts eighth homer
Paredes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: The 25-year-old continues to rake. Paredes has seven multi-hit performances in the last 12 games, a stretch in which he's batting .362 (17-for-47) with a 6:4 BB:K. The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .299/.384/.520 with eight homers and 19 RBI, and with top prospect Junior Caminero tearing it up himself at Triple-A Durham (.340/.392/.681 over his last 12 games), Paredes is doing his best to ensure he won't lose his spot in the starting lineup once the Rays call up the 20-year-old phenom.
