    • Tosses another bullpen session
      Kershaw (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

      Advice: This was the second bullpen session Kershaw has thrown since undergoing shoulder surgery last November. The southpaw hurled 15 pitches in his initial bullpen Friday and increased that amount to 20 pitches Tuesday. He's throwing only fastballs at this point, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that the results have been "really encouraging" so far. Kershaw could next advance to including breaking pitches in his mound work and ramping up to more pitches as he slowly works his way back to game action.     • Settles in after shaky start
      Lugo didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Milwaukee, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Lugo gave up a hit and a walk in the first frame, then followed the inning up with back-to-back homers to start the second. After that, however, Lugo retired nine straight batters and kept the Brewers off the scoreboard until the seventh inning. He was seemingly set up for his sixth win of the season with the Royals up 5-3 heading into the ninth, but Willy Adames took Lugo out of contention for the W with a go-ahead three-run home run. Lugo has pitched at least six innings in seven of his eight starts and has gone into the seventh five times. He's scheduled to make his next start Sunday against the Angels.       Imanaga didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against San Diego, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk across seven innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Imanaga allowed more than five hits for the first time this season and tied his season worst earned run total but it was hardly a disappointing start for the first-year MLB'er, who's arguably been the best starter in baseball. He blanked the Padres through seven innings but allowed an infield single to Luis Arraez then a homer to Jurickson Profar in the eighth before being pulled. Imanaga has fanned seven or more batters in three straight starts and the Cubs are 7-0 when he's on the bump. The lefty is tentatively scheduled to make his next start Tuesday in Atlanta.       Seth Lugo yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Brewers.

      Advice: Lugo got just five missed swings tonight, but he wound up with five strikeouts anyway. Back-to-back homers from Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz in the second inning accounted for most of the damage. Lugo will get the Angels on the road next time out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:48 pm
       
    • Imanaga dazzles with eight strikeouts vs. Padres
      Shota Imanaga allowed two earned runs over seven innings while striking out eight in the Cubs’ 3-2 win over the Padres.

      Advice: Imanaga was stellar again on a night where the Cubs only provided him one run on offense. Unfortunately, a disastrous eighth inning, which he entered with 95 pitches already on the ledger, quickly went awry for the lefty, who gave up a single a two-run homer to Jurickson Profar in the frame to get saddled with the loss. Outside of the disastrous eighth, Imanaga didn’t run into too much trouble in this one, stranding only one runner in scoring position while limiting the Padres to only singles through his first seven innings.       Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

      Advice: It was Kershaw’s second bullpen session since undergoing offseason left shoulder surgery. The 36-year-old future Hall of Fame southpaw is targeting a midseason return to Los Angeles’ starting rotation mix and remains a viable option for fantasy managers on a per-start basis, when healthy.     • Spencer Turnbull to pitch in relief on Tuesday night
      Spencer Turnbull will pitch in relief during Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays.

      Advice: Turnbull is expected to piggyback with southpaw Cristopher Sánchez on Tuesday night when the Phillies take on the Blue Jays at Citizens Bank Park. The 31-year-old right-hander has been brilliant this season in his Philadelphia debut before Taijuan Walker’s return last week bumped him back to the bullpen. He figures to gobble up a couple frames in this contest, which will be his first appearance since last Tuesday when he allowed two runs over 5 1/3 frames against the Angels.       Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Turnbull will pitch in relief Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Thomson wouldn't reveal exactly how Turnbull will be used, but Gelb says the right-hander will likely pitch three innings or so in what could be a piggyback situation with starter Cristopher Sanchez. Turnbull was demoted to the bullpen recently in spite of a 1.67 ERA and 36:10 K:BB in 32.1 innings this season, as the team has an eye on his workload since he hasn't thrown more than 56.2 innings in a season since 2019.     • Mixed results in season debut
      Buehler allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out four batters over four innings in a no-decision against Miami on Monday.

      Advice: Buehler had a favorable matchup in his first major-league start since mid-June of 2022, as he squared off against the team with the third-worst record in baseball. That didn't seem to matter early, though, as the Marlins jumped on the right-hander for a pair of first-inning runs on a trio of singles. However, Buehler's fastball velocity averaged a solid 96.6 mph in the frame, per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, which foreshadowed him settling down to allow just one more run over the remainder of his outing. Not surprisingly, the 29-year-old wasn't pushed too hard in his return to the majors, as he was pulled after 77 pitches and four frames rather than being allowed to complete the fifth and qualify for the win. Assuming Buehler comes out of the start without any setbacks, Monday's outing will likely serve as a foundation on which he can build up to a higher pitch count moving forward.
