    • Craig Kimbrel blows another save against Nationals
Craig Kimbrel suffered his third blown save of the season on Wednesday night, giving up two runs on a hit and two walks while recording just two outs.

Advice: The 35-year-old right-hander has not pitched well since dealing with back soreness, and perhaps the Orioles want to consider a stint on the injured list to sit him down and get him right. Kimbrel came on with a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning of this one and got the first two hitters in order, but then served up a solo homer to Eddie Rosario and then walked a pair of batters before turning the ball over to Keegan Akin who allowed a game-tying RBI single to CJ Abrams. Kimbrel now sports an unappealing 4.73 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 21/9 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings of work on the season. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago
    • Not used in save opportunity
Sewald did not enter Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo used Kevin Ginkel to close out what was a 4-2 lead to begin the bottom of the ninth inning, but he ran into trouble, allowing a walk and two singles. Lovullo turned to Joe Mantiply to close out the game. Presumably, the manager didn't want to push Sewald so soon after missing a month-and-a-half with an oblique injury; he threw 15 pitches Tuesday in his first game off the injured list. • Juan Soto homers, drives in five in win vs. Astros
Juan Soto went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI to lead the Yankees to a 9-4 victory over the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: Soto put the Yankees on the board in the first inning with a solo blast off Spencer Arrighetti. He drove in another run with a single in the second, then plated a run with a groundout in the sixth. Soto made it five RBI on the day with a base hit in the eighth. The 25-year-old star outfielder is hitting an outstanding .333/.434/.583 with nine homers 26 runs scored, 32 RBI, and four steals across 173 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 6:51 pm

    • Elly De La Cruz swipes two more bags in loss
Elly De La Cruz went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in Wednesday’s loss to the Diamondbacks — and still managed to steal a pair of bases.

Advice: The 22-year-old phenom reached base on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning, then proceeded to steal second and third base before being stranded there. He has been an invaluable asset in fantasy leagues so far this season, slashing .254/.356/.516 with eight homers, 19 RBI and a league-leading 21 stolen bases (in 24 attempts). • Pirates will promote Paul Skenes to start Saturday
The Pirates announced Wednesday that top pitching prospect Paul Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his major league debut Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: The 21-year-old fireballer was making a mockery of the hitting at Triple-A with Indianapolis, registering a 0.99 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and a ludicrous 45/8 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings of work in his seven starts. The Pirates are going to limit his innings this season, which will curtail some of his upside in the wins department, but he’s going to be an immediate impact contributor in all fantasy leagues and needs to be rostered everywhere at this point. • Hits in batting cage
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday that Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cage, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Murphy's recovery from a Grade 1 left oblique strain has inched along at a snail's pace, but he's finally making noteworthy progress. Given that he's already missed nearly six weeks of action, he will no doubt require a handful of minor-league rehab games before returning from the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 1:44 pm

    • Making MLB debut Saturday
The Pirates announced that Skenes will be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Saturday against the Cubs at PNC Park.

Advice: Skenes likely won't be officially added to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster until Saturday in advance of what should be one of the most highly anticipated MLB debuts for a pitching prospect in recent memory. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Skenes has been utterly dominant through his first seven starts at Indianapolis this season, pitching to a 0.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings. While he shouldn't be expected to immediately replicate the sterling ratios he produced in the minors, the flame-throwing right-hander should continue to make bats miss at a high clip as he makes the jump to the majors. The Pirates haven't revealed what the impending addition of Skenes means for the rest of the pitching staff, but the club could move to a six-man rotation to help keep the prized 21-year-old's workload in check during the 2024 season. • Sean Murphy (oblique) starts hitting in cage
Braves’ manager Brian Snitker told reporters on Wednesday that Sean Murphy (oblique) has progressed to hitting in the batting cages.

Advice: The 29-year-old backstop continues his slow and methodical progress in his return from a Grade 1 oblique strain. It sounds like a minor league rehab stint could be on the horizon soon, though it remains unclear how many games he’ll need there to get his timing back before he’s ready to rejoin the Braves. Travis d’Arnaud will continue holding down the fort for the time being. Rotoworld Today, 1:35 pm

    • Battles control in no-decision
Lopez came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: The four free passes were a season high for Lopez, who tossed 54 of 91 pitches for strikes before exiting. The right-hander has failed to last six innings in either of his last two outings after beginning the season with four straight quality starts, but he still sports a 1.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:14 K:BB through 35.1 innings. He'll look to tighten things up in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Cubs. Rotowire.com Today, 8:28 am
