    • Homers in Wednesday's loss
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Angels.

Advice: Goldschmidt is on a five-game hitting streak, having gone 7-for-23 (.304) with two homers and four RBI in that span. The burst of offense has doubled his homer total for the year to four, and he's up to 15 RBI, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases and three doubles while slashing .206/.291/.300 across 41 contests. Goldschmidt sat out a game just prior to his current streak, so it appears the mental reset is paying off in the short term, though his counting stats are unlikely to improve much if the team around him doesn't collectively start hitting better. • Paul Goldschmidt slugs fourth homer Wednesday
Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk against the Angels on Wednesday.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the fourth, Goldschmidt ended the shutout in the sixth inning, putting the Cardinals on the board with a solo homer off Griffin Canning. The 36-year-old first baseman is slashing .206/.291/.300 with four homers, 20 runs scored, 15 RBI, and two steals across 181 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:22 pm

    • Logs steal Tuesday
Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Angels.

Advice: Goldschmidt has gone 6-for-19 (.316) over the last four games, adding three RBI and three runs scored in that span, though he's also struck out 10 times. Any progress is a positive for the first baseman -- he went 0-for-27 over seven games to begin May. On the year, he's at a .205/.287/.282 slash line with three home runs, 14 RBI, 19 runs scored and two steals through 40 contests. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 10:38 pm

    • Snaps skid with homer
Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

Advice: Goldschmidt needed Sunday's performance in a big way; he entered the contest riding a 1-for-32 skid. He finally snapped out of it with a solo homer in the fifth inning, followed by a game-tying RBI single in the sixth. However, he also struck out twice, giving him an uncharacteristic 2:15 BB:K over his last eight games. On the year, Goldschmidt is now slashing .197/.280/.279 with six extra-base hits and 13 RBI through 38 games. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:07 pm

    • Paul Goldschmidt homers, knocks in two in win
Paul Goldschmidt snapped his skid with a solo homer and an RBI single as the Cardinals edged the Brewers 4-3 on Sunday.

Advice: Goldschmidt was 1-for-32 with 14 strikeouts this month. He did strike out twice more today, and his current 32% K rate is one reason to think he won’t be bouncing all of the way back from this hideous start. Still, things have to get better from here. He’s batting .197/.280/.279. Rotoworld Sunday, 3:46 pm

    • Paul Goldschmidt strikes out four times in return
Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts on Saturday in the Cardinals’ loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Yikes. Goldschmidt was unable to really get anything going in his return to St. Louis’ lineup after receiving a couple days off to mentally reset and work on his swing. The 36-year-old veteran first baseman, who was the National League’s MVP Award winner just two seasons ago, is off to the worst start of his career, batting .190 (27-for-142) with two homers, 11 RBI and one steal through 37 contests. Perhaps the most alarming aspect of his early-season decline is that he’s striking out at a career-worst 31.7 percent clip so far. Simply put, it’s not what you want. • Drives home only runs in victory
Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a home run and two total RBI in Friday's 2-0 win over Tampa Bay.

Advice: Rizzo accounted for both runs in the contest, knocking an RBI single in the fourth inning and providing some insurance with a solo homer in the ninth. The veteran first baseman has reached base safely in all but one of his eight games so far in May, slashing .296/.406/.519 with two homers and seven RBI over that stretch. With seven long balls and 22 RBI through 39 games on the campaign, Rizzo is already more than halfway to the totals he posted over 99 contests last season. Rotowire.com Saturday, 7:05 am

    • Anthony Rizzo powers Yankees past Rays on Friday
Anthony Rizzo clubbed his seventh home run of the season and drove in a pair on Friday night, propelling the Yankees to a 2-0 victory over the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Advice: Rizzo broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single off of Taj Bradley. He tacked on an insurance run in the ninth with his 392-foot (103.8 mph EV) off of Shawn Armstrong. The 34-year-old slugger finished the evening 2-for-4 and is now slashing .265/.337/.435 with seven long balls and 22 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Friday, 6:34 pm

    • Paul Goldschmidt returns to Cardinals’ lineup
Paul Goldschmidt returned to the Cardinals starting lineup for Friday night’s ballgame against the Brewers.

Advice: The Cardinals had the struggling 36-year-old slugger take the previous two games off to work on reconstructing his swing. That makes sense, as he’s slashing a putrid .195/.287/.263 with just two homers, 11 RBI, one swipe and a 47/16 K/BB ratio over 152 plate appearances to start the season. There’s nowhere to go but up, so fantasy managers will just have to hope that whatever changes he made make a difference. He’ll bat third against rookie left-hander Robert Gasser on Friday evening in Milwaukee. Rotoworld Friday, 3:57 pm
