    • Keeps slugging Friday
Diaz went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 7-1 win over the Angels.

Advice: Diaz opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning and added a two-run homer in the seventh. He's gone yard in four straight contests, an impressive run of power after he went 39 games without a homer prior to this surge. The catcher is at a .258/.285/.416 slash line, seven long balls, 32 RBI, 22 runs scored and 10 doubles over 56 contests. With Kyle Tucker (lower leg) going on the injured list Friday, Yordan Alvarez has seen more time in the field, giving the Astros the option of moving Diaz to designated hitter rather than having him at catcher full-time in the short term. • Nick Lodolo limits Cubs to one run in victory
Nick Lodolo held the Cubs to one run in six innings and struck out seven in the Reds’ 3-2 victory Friday.

Advice: A Dansby Swanson homer was the only damage. Lodolo picked up his sixth win in nine starts this year, matching his total in 26 starts between 2022 and ’23. He’ll take a 2.92 ERA into his next start versus the Reds. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:43 pm
    • Alexis Díaz gives up run, earns 13th save
Alexis Díaz recorded his 13th save despite giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the Cubs.

Advice: After getting two well-hit lineouts to start the ninth, Díaz walked a batter and allowed an RBI double. He then struck out Patrick Wisdom to end the game with a 3-2 score. Díaz has made 26 appearances this season and turned in a perfect inning three times. Still, as shaky as he’s been, he’s 13-for-15 saving games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:43 pm
    • Vierling on base twice in loss Friday
Matt Vierling went 1-for-3 with a walk against the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: It was a quiet night for the Tigers offense as they were shutout and managed only two hits. Still, Vierling got on base twice out of the leadoff spot. His average is up to .282 with a .794 OPS on the season. Obviously, he’s not going to put up big time run totals given the state of Detroit’s offense, but he’s been a viable option even in mixed leagues so far this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:41 pm

    • Turang has four hits in win Friday
Brice Turing went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, a double and a stolen base against the Tigers on Friday.

Advice: The stolen base was his 22nd of the season. Turang’s average is up to .303 on the season now and he’s managed 24 RBI. He continues to enjoy a breakout season out of the leadoff spot for the Brewers this year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:34 pm

    • Max Scherzer (thumb) to make rehab start Sunday
Max Scherzer will make a rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

Advice: It will be interesting to see how quickly the Rangers let Scherzer return from the minors. The 39-year-old has made a total of six minor league rehab starts during his 16-year career and never more than two during one IL stay. One would think a typical pitcher would get three or four in his situation (he missed the entire spring after back surgery and then made rehab start in April before injuring his thumb). Scherzer, though, is hardly typical. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:38 pm

    • Resuming rehab assignment Sunday
Scherzer (back/arm) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

Advice: Scherzer had to be pulled off his initial rehab assignment in early May following a nerve problem with his throwing arm, but he's been trending in the right direction in recent weeks after receiving a cortisone injection. The 39-year-old was initially placed on the injured list due to his recovery from offseason back surgery. Scherzer threw 40 pitches in a live batting practice session earlier this week, so he should be ready for at least that many pitches Sunday. He will need multiple rehab starts before rejoining the Rangers' rotation, but a return before the end of June would seem to be in play. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:36 pm

    • Taking seat Friday
Lowe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe will get a day off with lefty Cole Irvin on the mound for the O's. Randy Arozarena, Jose Siri and Jonny DeLuca will patrol the outfield from left to right Friday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:13 pm

    • On track to return next week
Diaz (shoulder) said after his rehab appearance with High-A Brooklyn on Thursday that he will get one more rehab outing Sunday before being activated from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday or Thursday, SNY reports.

Advice: Diaz allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning for Brooklyn in his first rehab appearance. The reliever was pleased with his performance, saying after the game that his fastball had "new life" and his slider felt "great." Diaz is on track to return to the Mets' bullpen next week, although it's not clear whether he will serve as the team's closer right away. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:11 am
