    • Goes deep in loss
Cruz went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Monday's loss to the Reds.

Advice: Cruz drove in one run in the fifth inning before capping off his night with a two-run blast in the seventh. It was his 11th home run of the year, with four of those coming this month. He was stuck in a 2-for-19 skid (.105) over his previous six games since his last multi-hit performance June 16. Cruz now owns a .243/.296/.433 slash line with 34 RBI and 27 extra-base hits through 284 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 8:53 pm

    • Ohtani walks, hits sac fly in win over White Sox
Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI against the White Sox on Monday.

Advice: It was a quiet game for the Dodgers offense against White Sox starter Garrett Crochet. Ohtani hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to give Los Angeles a 3-0 lead. It was his 58th RBI on the season. He trails only Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna for the National League lead in RBI. Ohtani is hitting .318 with a 1.021 OPS on the season. • Oneil Cruz homers, drives in three in losing effort
Oneil Cruz went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Monday in the Pirates’ lopsided defeat at the hands of the Reds.

Advice: Cruz was one of the few bright spots for Pittsburgh in this one as he drove in a run with a fifth-inning ground out before slugging a gargantuan 458-foot moonshot — his 11th big fly of the season — a couple frames later off Reds reliever Fernando Cruz. The 25-year-old shortstop has been scuffling at the dish in recent weeks, batting .216 (25-for-116) with four homers and three steals over his last 30 games. He’s also struck out a whopping 40 times during that span. The flashes of dynamic game-changing talent are still there on occasion, but Cruz remains a bit of a work in progress at the moment. • Spencer Steer tallies two hits, three RBI in blowout
Spencer Steer went 2-for-4 with three RBI on Monday in the Reds’ lopsided win over the Pirates.

Advice: It’s pretty remarkable that the Reds finished with 11 runs in this one considering they put three straight zeroes on the scoreboard to open the contest before Steer finally got Cincinnati on the board with a two-run double in the fourth inning. The versatile 26-year-old has five homers and one steal over his last 30 games and is up to nine homers and 12 thefts overall this season through 76 contests. Rotoworld Today, 7:19 pm

    • Plays catch from 90 feet
Ohtani (elbow) played catch from 90 feet Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Advice: It's the first time he's thrown from that distance since last September's Tommy John surgery. Ohtani continues to progress in his rehab with no issues, and he has certainly shown no ill effects at the plate as a result of the recovery. The Dodgers haven't ruled out the possibility of Ohtani playing the outfield at some point in 2024, although that still seems like a long shot. He will continue to serve as the club's designated hitter, with an eye on resuming two-way duties in 2025. Rotowire.com Today, 4:12 pm

    • Idle against lefty
Biggio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Biggio will once again hit the bench while the Dodgers face off against a lefty starter (Garrett Crochet) for the third time in four games. Platoon mate Enrique Hernandez gets the nod at third base in Biggio's stead. Rotowire.com Today, 3:20 pm

    • Long-tossing from 120 feet
Garcia (elbow) has progressed to long-tossing from 120 feet, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Working his way back from right elbow ulnar neuritis, Garcia would seem close to throwing off a mound if he can continue to progress. He was closing for the Blue Jays before getting hurt a week ago and could eventually get that job back, although Jordan Romano (elbow) and Chad Green will be factors. Rotowire.com Today, 2:28 pm

    • Plays light catch Monday
Romano (elbow) played light catch Monday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Romano felt soreness in his right elbow while long-tossing this past Friday, so it's a pleasant surprise he's throwing again already, even if it's just light catch. The veteran reliever has dealt with elbow problems off and on since spring training, so he'll need to clear several hurdles before a timetable for a return can be mapped out. • Productive trip to Pittsburgh
Lowe went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Pirates.

Advice: Lowe blasted two home runs Friday and ended the Rays' series in Pittsburgh 6-for-11 with three runs scored, five RBI and a stolen base. After an injury-filled start to the season, Lowe has started to come around at the plate by tallying three multi-hit performances in his last six starts. Rotowire.com Today, 6:52 am
