    • Acuña hits game-tying homer, but Atlanta falls to LAD
      Ronald Acuña hit a solo homer while going 2-for-5 in an extra-inning loss to the Dodgers on Friday.

      Advice: Acuña Jr. hasn’t shown a ton of power in the early portion of the season, but he came through in a big way with a game-tying homer in the eighth off Daniel Hudson in the eighth. That’s just the second roundtripper of the season for the reigning MVP, but it’s hard to fathom the power isn’t going to come from a player that swatted 41 homers in 2023.       Manager Scott Servais said Friday that Kirby has been dealing with a right knee issue, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Servais added that Kirby's knee isn't considered a major problem, but it was the reason why he was pulled from his start Friday after throwing just 88 pitches through six innings. The Mariners will keep an eye on the right-hander's condition, but at the moment it appears Kirby should still be able to make his next start -- tentatively scheduled for Thursday against Minnesota.       Kirby allowed a run on four hits over six innings during a no-decision Friday. He struck out three during the loss to Houston.

      Advice: Kirby was in line for the win before Seattle's bullpen coughed up the lead. The lone run against him came via Jeremy Pena's RBI groundout in the sixth inning. Kirby was efficient Friday, throwing 60 of 88 pitches for strikes. He's allowed just one run while producing a stellar 22:2 K:BB over his last 18 frames. Of his seven starts this year, Kirby allowed two or fewer runs in five of them. However, he coughed up 13 combined runs in the other two. Kirby is currently projected to start in Minnesota next week.       Julien went 1-for-2 with two RBI, two walks and a stolen base in Friday's win over Boston.

      Advice: Julien was stuck in an 0-for-11 drought since his last hit April 27. The lefty slugger drove in a run with a third-inning single before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the seventh.       George Kirby gave up just a run over six innings against the Astros on Friday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

      Advice: Kirby threw just 88 pitches before leaving Friday, and Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters after the game that he had some issues with his right knee. Obviously, that’s something to keep an eye on. It was yet again a tremendous outing when Kirby was on the mound, however, and he’s allowed just the one earned run over his last three starts.       Edman (wrist) is slated to take full swings off a tee Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Edman recently progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish after being limited to the right side due to his surgically repaired right wrist. He was also seen tracking fly balls during batting practice Friday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Edman still appears far away from a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old is steadily progressing.     • Cardinals taking things slow with Tommy Edman
      Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the team continues to proceed cautiously with Tommy Edman (wrist).

      Advice: The 28-year-old has been hitting off of a tee from both sides of the plate, but Marmol noted that his progression will continue to be slower than most injured players’ by design. He also said that a minor league rehab assignment is not imminent.       Harrison allowed one run on three hits and five walks while striking out seven batters over five innings in a no-decision against Boston on Thursday.

      Advice: Harrison issued a season-high five free passes -- as many as he had handed out over six starts coming into the contest -- but managed to continuously get out of trouble, as none of the batters he put on base via walk came around to score. The southpaw thus managed to emerge with a no-decision, though his high pitch count of 95 offerings limited him to five frames and prevented him from picking up what could have been his fifth quality start of the campaign.
