    • Drew Smith (forearm) heading for MRI exam
Mets’ right-hander Drew Smith will undergo an MRI exam on his injured forearm on Wednesday.

Advice: Mets’ skipper Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Smith felt tightness in his forearm after his last outing, so they’ll get some imaging done to see exactly what’s going on there. It’s unclear whether or not they’ll place him on the injured list and make a roster move prior to Wednesday’s game, but it not they’ll be two-men down in their bullpen with Edwin Diaz currently serving his suspension. • Liam Hendriks (elbow) throws fastballs off mound
Liam Hendriks threw 15 fastballs Wednesday in his first mound session since elbow surgery last August.

Advice: He’s not busting out the slider just yet. “I’m the only guy in here throwing fastballs.” he said afterwards. Hendriks is hoping to convince the Red Sox to let him aim for an August return, though that’s still up in the air. Rotoworld Today, 12:58 pm

    • Fans eight in no-decision
Pepiot allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Seattle on Wednesday.

Advice: Pepiot only allowed three runners to reach in a solid showing that was spoiled by his bullpen after he was pulled in the sixth. For the fourth time this season, he struck out eight or more batters in a start. Despite the good strikeout numbers, the 26-year-old struggles to get deep into games as he has yet to pitch past the sixth inning in 14 starts. He'll take a 4.40 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP into his next start in Kansas City. Rotowire.com Today, 12:43 pm

    • Gregory Soto fires scoreless frame against Tigers
Gregory Soto fired a scoreless frame against his former club on Wednesday, working a scoreless fourth inning with a pair of strikeouts at Comerica Park.

Advice: Soto was called upon in the fourth inning of this one after Spencer Turnbull made an early exit with a sore shoulder. The lone baserunner against him came as he plunked Riley Greene with a one-out pitch. He struck out Colt Keith to begin the inning and Wenceel Perez to end it. On the season, the 29-year-old southpaw holds a 3.91 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and a 28/15 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings while accruing two saves and a victory Rotoworld Today, 12:42 pm
    • Another live BP set
Santos (lat) is set to throw another live batting practice Friday in Seattle and could begin a rehab assignment shortly thereafter, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander put together a very encouraging live BP on Saturday in Miami before that day's game against the Marlins, using his sinker/slider combo with great effectiveness and impressive velocity against Ryan Bliss and Tyler Locklear in a 10-pitch session. If Santos encounters similar success Friday, it appears he'll be ticketed for what should be a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, given he's been sidelined since spring training. • Set to start Thursday
Daniel will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Thursday's game against the Tigers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Other than a one-day stay with the Halos in mid-May in which he didn't make an appearance, Daniel has spent the entire season at Salt Lake, posting an ugly 5.33 ERA but a more promising 82:25 K:BB across 76 innings covering 14 starts. The 27-year-old right-hander appeared in three games out of the Angels bullpen in 2023, allowing three runs with a 9:9 K:BB over 12.1 frames. With Patrick Sandoval (elbow) out for the season and Jose Soriano (abdomen) still on the injured list, Daniel could get a chance to take multiple turns through the rotation. • Moving rehab to Triple-A
The Yankees transferred Effross' (back) rehab assignment from Single-A Tampa to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Advice: Effross turned in a pair of clean rehab outings for Tampa, covering three shutout innings while striking out four. He'll likely be in store for a more extended stay at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre that could extend the full length of his 30-day rehab window, which began June 19. The right-hander missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from October 2022 Tommy John surgery and has been on the Yankees' injured list for the entirety of the current season while he works his way back from December back surgery. • Leaves early with sore shoulder
Turnbull was removed from his start in Wednesday's game against the Tigers after three innings due to a sore right shoulder, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. He struck out two and allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks before exiting the contest.

Advice: Manager Rob Thomson previously said that Turnbull was being targeted for around 70 pitches in his first start since April 30, but the right-hander lasted just 36 pitches before bowing out with the shoulder issue. Turnbull will likely be put through more thorough testing after the game as the Phillies look to determine the full extent of the injury, but he could be at risk of landing on the 15-day injured list alongside Taijuan Walker (finger), whom he had replaced in the rotation. • Yankees outright Victor González to Triple-A
Yankees sent LHP Victor González outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: González had a 3.86 ERA before being sent down by the Yankees, though it came with an 11/13 K/BB in 23 1/3 innings. The Yankees are surely glad he cleared waivers, and he might well reemerge as a bullpen option in the second half. Rotoworld Today, 11:14 am
