    • Allows season-high five runs
Peralta did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Thursday, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Peralta struggled with his command throughout the contest, allowing four of the first eight batters to reach base before going on to surrender a season-high five runs. The right-hander gave up three runs in the first inning alone and failed to make it through five frames for the first time this season. Peralta also recorded a season-low five strikeouts on the afternoon after recording at least seven in each of his first five starts to open the campaign. Rotowire.com Today, 3:35 am
    • Keeps rolling with another save
Miller notched a save against the Yankees on Thursday, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings during which he allowed one hit and struck out three batters.

Advice: Miller continues to flourish in the closer role -- he's a perfect six-for-six in save opportunities so far and hasn't given up a run since his first outing of the campaign. The right-hander's heater is also paying off with big strikeout numbers, as he's racked up an impressive 23 punchouts over 11.1 frames. Despite the fact that Miller plays for one of the league's worst teams, he's quickly evolving into one of fantasy's most desirable closers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:58 pm

    • Impressive again Thursday
Yamamoto (2-1) earned the win over Washington on Thursday, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six scoreless innings.

Advice: Despite a rough season debut, Yamamoto has thus far lived up to the billing that netted him a 12-year, $325 million contract in the offseason, as he's tossed a scoreless outing of at least five frames in half of his six starts so far. The Japanese hurler's outing Thursday was his second straight quality start and lowered his season ERA to 3.54. Yamamoto also holds a 1.07 WHIP and 37:6 K:BB through 28 innings. • One out shy of quality start
Assad didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out five.

Advice: Although Assad was only at 85 pitches, he was pulled one out before becoming eligible for the quality start after allowing a pair of baserunners. Although Assad has only completed six innings once in five starts, he boasts a 2.00 ERA and a 26:9 K:BB with a 2-0 record. He's tentatively scheduled for a start against the Mets on Tuesday. • Expected back Friday
Merrill (groin) is expected to return to the lineup Friday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was scratched Thursday but the issue was deemed precautionary. He spoke to reporters following the Padres' loss and said he feels fine and is adjusting to the rigors of the MLB schedule. While Merrill is expected to return Friday, it will be worth confirming he is in the lineup as San Diego opens a series against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:46 pm

    • Mason Miller records four-out save vs. Yankees
Mason Miller recorded a four-out save on Thursday against the Yankees.

Advice: Miller might be the most electrifying pitcher in baseball at the moment. Athletics manager Mark Kotsay handed him the ball for a four-out save opportunity at Yankee Stadium and he immediately responded by striking out Jose Trevino on a 101 mph fastball to end the eighth inning. He came back out to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and recorded two additional strikeouts to successfully work around a one-out infield single from Anthony Volpe. The hard-throwing 25-year-old former top pitching prospect has converted all six of his save opportunities this season to go along with a microscopic 1.59 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 23/4 K/BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings (nine appearances). • Javier Assad holds Astros to one run over 5 2/3
Javier Assad struck out five over 5 2/3 innings while allowing just a run in a no-decision against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Assad scattered four hits and issued one free pass. The right-hander got off to a rough start while allowing a run in the first, but he was excellent for the next five-plus frames. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs and fantasy managers who started Assad, he didn’t get the run support necessary to qualify for a victory. He’ll be back on the bump in New York next week against the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:09 pm

    • Peralta has first poor start of the season
Freddy Peralta allowed five runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: It all came down to command for Peralta, who walked five and struck out five on the day. Peralta, who has been electric all season, had just a 40 percent zone rate on the day and an 18 percent chase rate, so he wasn’t able to pound the strike zone and didn’t make the Pirates chase pitches out of the strike zone. His fastball, which had taken a massive step forward in 2024, had just a 40 percent zone rate on its own. Without that, Peralta was never able to get into a rhythm. We’ve seen his fastball command fail him at times, but this is the first time in 2024, so hopefully it’s not the beginning of a poor stretch of command. Peralta gets a tough test against the Rays next week, but should still be started in all leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:07 pm
    • Jackson Merrill scratched from Thursday’s lineup
Jackson Merrill was scratched from the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Rockies due to right groin tightness.

Advice: The Padres are merely keeping Merrill out of the lineup for Thursday’s series finale for precautionary reasons. Eguy Rosario will start for the Padres on play third base, while Tyler Wade moves to left field and José Azocar goes to center field. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
