      Advice: Harrison issued a season-high five free passes -- as many as he had handed out over six starts coming into the contest -- but managed to continuously get out of trouble, as none of the batters he put on base via walk came around to score. The southpaw thus managed to emerge with a no-decision, though his high pitch count of 95 offerings limited him to five frames and prevented him from picking up what could have been his fifth quality start of the campaign. Though Harrison has settled for a no-decision in each of his past two appearances, he's allowed just one run while fanning 14 batters over 11 frames during that span.     • Max Scherzer targeting rehab outing next week
      Max Scherzer (back, thumb) is likely to make a minor league rehab start next week.

      Advice: Scherzer told reporters Thursday that his thumb is improving and he was able to resume playing catch without any issues. The hope is that he’ll be ready for a minor league outing at some point next week. Barring any further setbacks, he could return to Texas’ starting rotation mix by mid-May.     • Edward Cabrera whiffs nine, allows four vs. Rockies
      Edward Cabrera allowed four runs in four innings while fanning nine against the Rockies on Thursday.

      Advice: Cabrera pitched better than this line suggests, but a three-run homer by Jacob Stallings turned a strong outing into a mediocre one. The right-hander did have command issues, however, as he walked four and threw 56-of-91 pitches for strikes. Still, an encouraging outing that showed off the 26-year-old’s swing-and-miss potential.     • Kyle Harrison holds Red Sox to one in no-decision
      Kyle Harrison went five innings while allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts against the Red Sox on Thursday.

      Advice: It wasn’t always easy for Harrison despite the strong line. The left-hander didn’t find the strike zone on a consistent basis, as he issued five walks with 57-of-95 pitches counting for strikes. Still, the 22-year-old was able to work around those free passes thanks in large part to those aforementioned strikeouts, and he’s allowed just one run over his last two starts.       Cabrera didn't factor into Thursday's decision against the Rockies, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks while striking out nine over four innings.

      Advice: Three of the Rockies' four runs against Cabrera came on a Jacob Stallings homer in the second inning. Cabrera had the strikeout pitch working Thursday, though his command remained inconsistent, as he needed 91 pitches to record just 12 outs. Cabrera's now been held to fewer than five innings in consecutive outings. His ERA is up to 6.05 with a 1.50 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB through his first four starts (19.1 innings).       Yamamoto (3-1) earned the win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing five hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Yamamoto allowed the leadoff man to reach in back-to-back innings to open the contest but still managed to keep Arizona's lineup at bay over six frames. The right-hander has now hurled 12 scoreless innings over his last two starts and has won each of his last three decisions after imploding in his MLB debut.     • Hard-luck loss Tuesday
      Berrios (4-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Royals, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Berrios was solid Tuesday, holding the Royals to two runs on a Michael Massey homer in the second inning en route to a sixth quality start in seven outings this year. However, the 29-year-old Berrios was ultimately stuck with a second straight loss to Kansas City as the Blue Jays could only muster a lone run off Cole Ragans. Berrios lowered his ERA to an excellent 1.44 with a 1.01 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB through 43.2 innings this season.     • José Berríos gets tough luck loss against Royals
      José Berríos allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

      Advice: Berríos was good, but Cole Ragans was just better. Berríos also struck out just three on the evening while walking one and posting just a 13 percent whiff rate. He did register a 27 percent CSW thanks to his ability to pound the zone with his sinker, but his curve and changeup couldn’t consistently find the zone and he got few chases out of the zone on that breaking ball which limited his overall effectiveness. Berríos has outpitched his peripheries so far this year and there is some regression coming on his 1.44 ERA but you can still start him every game while he’s pitching like this, including next week against the Phillies.     • Fans career-high 14 in revenge game
      Flaherty came away with a no-decision in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, scattering two hits and a walk over 6.2 scoreless innings in a 2-1 loss. He struck out 14.

      Advice: Facing the team he spent the first six-plus seasons of his career with, the 28-year-old right-hander made St. Louis regret letting him go. His 14 strikeouts were a career high, topping the 13 he reached twice in 2018, and he tied Tyler Glasnow for the most in a start this season. Flaherty also fanned the first seven batters he faced, tying the AL record most recently matched by Luis Castillo in 2022. Flaherty generated an eye-popping 24 swinging strikes among his 93 pitches, and he was in line for his first win of the season before Shelby Miller blew the save in the ninth. Flaherty is now second in the majors in strikeouts this season with 50, just behind Glasnow's 53, and he'll take a 4.00 ERA and 1.03 WHIP into his next outing, which is scheduled to come early next week in Cleveland.
