  • Erick Fedde hurls six strong in victory over ARI
    Erick Fedde went six innings while allowing two runs to get a win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

    Advice: Fedde did allow eight hits, but he didn’t put anyone on via walk while striking out six. The right-hander gave up runs in the first and fifth inning and he was able to avoid the big inning for another strong outing for the 31-year-old. The White Sox have been a disaster, but Fedde has been an absolute bright spot with a 3.09 ERA through 87 1/3 innings. He’s scheduled to take on the Tigers on Friday.   • Likely out through All-Star break
    Kelly (shoulder) is expected to be held out through the All-Star break, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports Saturday.

    Advice: Manager Torey Lovullo noted that Kelly hasn't thrown beyond 75 feet yet and is being brought along slowly. The 35-year-old has been sidelined since late April and didn't start a throwing program until June 4.   • Strikes out seven in win
    Castillo (6-7) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Friday.

    Advice: Castillo received an extra day of rest after Emerson Hancock got a spot start Thursday. It looks like that was a good move, as Castillo was able to bounce back from his worst start of the year to earn his third quality start in his last four outings. He is now at a 3.32 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 92:24 K:BB over 89.1 innings through 15 starts. He's projected for a challenging road matchup versus the Guardians next week.   • Luis Castillo holds Rangers to two runs over six
    Luis Castillo struck out seven after six innings of two-run baseball against the Rangers on Friday while picking up a win.

    Advice: Castillo scuffled in the first inning, allowing a pair of RBI singles. After that, the right-hander was excellent while keeping the Rangers off the board over the next five frames. The six strong innings see him lower his ERA on the campaign to 3.32 with a 92/24 K/BB. Castillo’s next chance to pitch is scheduled for Thursday against the Guardians in Cleveland.   • Bumped back to Friday
    Castillo's next start has been pushed back a day to Friday against the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

    Advice: The Mariners have just one off day over the next two weeks and one member of their rotation, Bryan Woo (forearm), who is banged up, so the team will use this as an opportunity to give their regular starters some rest.   • Secures eighth victory
    Gray (8-4) earned the win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over seven innings.

    Advice: After allowing the first two batters he faced in the outing to reach base, Gray retired the next 12 hitters to step up against him. The Pirates managed a fifth-inning run on a pair of hits, but that was the only tally they were able to push across the plate. Gray finished with his first quality start since May 3 -- a span of seven appearances -- and snapped a personal two-game losing streak. The right-hander allowed seven runs across 9.2 innings during that two-game stretch, but with Wednesday's excellent outing he improved his overall season ERA to 3.01.   • Sonny Gray fans nine in defeating Pirates
    Sonny Gray pitched seven innings of one-run ball and struck out nine Wednesday against the Pirates.

    Advice: Coming off a down stretch that saw him post a 5.46 ERA in his previous six starts, Gray tonight turned in his first quality start since May 3. He’s now 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA overall. He’s somehow received decisions in all of his starts to date, and he’s the only pitcher qualified for the ERA title who can say that.   • Falls to Giants
    Valdez (5-4) took the loss Wednesday against San Francisco, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out one.

    Advice: It was a tough day for Valdez, who allowed two runs in the third inning before the Giants scored three more in the fourth. The 30-year-old Valdez had allowed just five runs in three starts (22 innings) coming into Wednesday's matchup. The left-hander now sports a 3.99 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and 51:19 K:BB across 67.2 innings this year.   • Woo! MRI on right-hander’s forearm returns clean
    Mariners’ manager Scott Servais told reporters on Wednesday that the MRI on the forearm of injured right-hander Bryan Woo came back clean.

    Advice: Too often in situations like these, a forearm strain leads to instability in the elbow, then the MRI reveals structural damage and another talented hurler heads for Tommy John surgery. It’s very refreshing to hear in this case that Woo won’t even require a trip to the injured list and could return to the Mariners’ rotation as early as next week. The 24-year-old hurler has been terrific this season, registering a 1.07 ERA, 0.54 WHIP and a 24/2 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings in his first six starts. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:14 pm
