• Takes soft toss Monday
Edman (wrist) took soft toss Monday as he continues his hitting progression, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Edman has gone from tee work to soft toss and will progress to facing live pitching once he's ready for the next step. The switch hitter is being slow-played following complications in his recovery from right wrist surgery and still appears to be pretty far off from beginning a rehab assignment. • Sitting out series opener
Paredes is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Paredes was hit in the helmet by a pitch in the seventh inning of Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Yankees, but he stayed in the game after being checked out. His absence from the lineup a day later may create some level of concern about his health, but Paredes could just be receiving a maintenance day after he had started in each of the Rays' last nine games. Amed Rosario will replace Paredes at the hot corner Monday, and for now, the expectation is that Paredes will be back in the lineup Tuesday. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:48 pm

  • Sitting in series finale
Cabrera is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Cabrera went 0-for-2 in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Rays and is slashing just .200/.246/.262 over his last 20 games. He finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games and could be losing hold of his regular role at third base. Jon Berti will fill in for Cabrera once again Sunday. • Getting first day off of 2024
Altuve is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: After being limited to playing in 90 games in 2023, Altuve is off to a healthy start to 2024. He's started in each of Houston's first 39 games, but he'll be on the bench Sunday in what looks to be a routine maintenance day. Mauricio Dubon will check in at second base for Altuve, who gets the day off while he's in the midst of a minor slump at the dish. Altuve has gone 3-for-21 with seven strikeouts over his last five starts. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:18 am

  • Jose Altuve not starting Sunday against Tigers
Jose Altuve is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Tigers.

Advice: It’s a day of rest for Altuve after playing the first 39 games of the season with a .312 average and .882 OPS. The 34-year-old gets Sunday off with Kyle Tucker moving to the leadoff spot and Mauricio Dubon playing second base while hitting ninth. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:12 am

  • Remains limited to tee work
Edman (wrist) remains limited to tee work, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: He has been cleared to up the intensity of his workouts, but Edman's progress remains, at best, slow, with no return date in sight. The switch hitter was transferred to the 60-day injured list earlier this week, so he's officially not eligible for activation until late May. Rotowire.com Thursday, 1:53 pm

  • Isaac Paredes plates lone run in loss to White Sox
Isaac Paredes went 1-for-3 with a double and drove in the Rays’ lone run in Wednesday evening’s loss to the White Sox.

Advice: The hard-hitting 25-year-old infielder got the Rays on the board first with a run-scoring double off of Chris Flexen in the fourth inning. That would wind up being their only tally in the contest though. Paredes also drew a walk in the ballgame, reaching base safely in two of his four plate appearances. For the season, he’s now hitting .300/.387/.523 with eight homers and 20 RBI. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:07 pm

  • Belts eighth homer
Paredes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: The 25-year-old continues to rake. Paredes has seven multi-hit performances in the last 12 games, a stretch in which he's batting .362 (17-for-47) with a 6:4 BB:K. The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .299/.384/.520 with eight homers and 19 RBI, and with top prospect Junior Caminero tearing it up himself at Triple-A Durham (.340/.392/.681 over his last 12 games), Paredes is doing his best to ensure he won't lose his spot in the starting lineup once the Rays call up the 20-year-old phenom.
