    Max Scherzer (thumb) will make a minor league rehab start on Saturday for Triple-A Round Rock.

    Advice: Scherzer appears to be close to making it back for the defending World Series champions after suffering a thumb-related setback during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery.     Waldron (4-6) took the loss Friday as the Padres were downed 2-1 by the Mets, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out two.

    Advice: The knuckleballer delivered his fourth straight quality start while lasting seven innings for just the second time this season, but San Diego's offense gave little support. Waldron has gone seven straight outings in which he's pitched at least five innings and allowed two runs or less, posting a stellar 1.91 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB through 42.1 innings over that stretch.     Braves selected the contract of OF Ramón Laureano from Triple-A Gwinnett.

    Advice: Laureano gets the call back to the majors ahead of Saturday’s showdown against the Rays with center fielder Michael Harris II landing on the injured list with a left hamstring strain. The 29-year-old outfielder was released last month by the Guardians after posting a disastrous .494 OPS in 31 games to open the year. He quickly latched on with the Braves and finds himself back in the majors as extra outfield depth after batting .362 (21-for-58) with three homers in 14 games for Triple-A Gwinnett.     Gausman (5-5) took the loss Friday as the Blue Jays fell 3-1 to the Guardians, giving up three runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

    Advice: The right-hander's velocity was erratic all night -- his very first fastball to Steven Kwan to lead off the game clocked at only 89 mph, but one batter later he popped 94.4 mph against Andres Gimenez. Without consistent stuff, Gausman wound up getting tagged for five extra-base hits, including a Will Brennan solo shot in the fourth inning. He was able to minimize the damage though, and Gausman's given up three runs or less in five of his last six starts, producing a 3.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 38:6 K:BB through 38.2 innings over that stretch.
