    Javier did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Angels, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out one over four innings.

    Advice: Javier's night got started off on the wrong foot after surrendering a two-run blast to Luis Rengifo in the opening frame. The Angels then got to him for two more runs in the fourth on a trio of hits which included an RBI-double from Zach Neto. It was a very discouraging performance after Javier put together his best start of the season his previous outing against the A's. After the game, he cited his struggles due to poor mechanics, though he's now given up 11 runs on 13 hits and seven walks while striking out just one batter in 5.1 innings in his two starts surrounding his gem against Oakland.     Gray (groin) will undergo an MRI after being removed from Tuesday's start, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

  • Hurt by long ball Tuesday
    Canning did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Astros, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings.

    Advice: Canning's only runs against him came off back-to-back home runs from Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez in the first inning. He then settled in from there and pitched four scoreless frames before his day was done after 89 pitches. He's now allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last four starts but has also given up four home runs and nine walks over that span. Tuesday was his fourth start of the year with three or fewer strikeouts, and he's now averaging just 6.3 K/9 after a career-best 9.9 K/9 a season ago.     Advice: Nelson was lit up for seven runs by the Tigers last time out, putting his spot in jeopardy, but when everything was quiet over the last few days, it seemed likely that he’d remain in the rotation.     Brandon Pfaadt yielded three runs — two earned — over six innings and struck out seven in a victory over the Dodgers on Tuesday.

    Advice: Pfaadt, who has had some hard luck with the Diamondbacks struggling to put runs on the board, won for the first time since his season-opening start against the Rockies on March 31.   • Gavin Stone charged with four runs in loss
    Gavin Stone lost to the Diamondbacks after allowing four runs in six innings on Tuesday.

    Advice: Stone came up a little short of delivering a fifth straight quality start and took his first loss since April 7. He gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out five in falling to 4-2 with a 3.60 ERA.   • Aaron Brooks delivers quality start versus Rockies
    Aaron Brooks gave the A’s another quality start by allowing three runs in six innings Tuesday at home against the Rockies.

    Advice: This is definitely pushing the boundaries of the quality start; not only did he do the bare minimum in allowing three runs in six innings, but he was doing so against the road-team version of the Rockies in a strong pitcher’s park in Oakland.   • Mason Miller strikes out side for ninth save
    Mason Miller struck out all three batters he faced Tuesday against the Rockies for his first save of the month.

    Advice: Miller earned eight saves from Apr. 9-30, but the A’s hadn’t had any save situations for him since. Given that he also pitched Sunday, it’s possible he’ll now require Wednesday off.   • Cal Quantrill strikes out eight against A’s
    Cal Quantrill yielded two runs in six innings and struck out eight against the A’s on Tuesday.

    Advice: The Rockies ought to be shopping Quantrill now; it’s hard to imagine he’ll have more trade value at the deadline than he does currently with his 3.59 ERA and a 44/21 K/BB ratio in 57 2/3 innings.
