• Returns from IL
The Athletics reinstated Davis (thigh) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Advice: The 31-year-old went 3-for-15 during a four-game rehab sitnt with Triple-A Las Vegas and is back in the lineup Friday for Oakland, as he's starting at first base and batting fifth. Davis posted a .196/.255/.373 slash line in 14 games prior to suffering the adductor strain. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago

  • Joey Gallo (shoulder) ready for rehab assignment
Joey Gallo (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Single-A Fredericksburg on Saturday.

Advice: The free-swinging 30-year-old slugger has been sidelined since late April due to an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder. He should only need a couple of game’s worth of at-bats before he’s cleared to return to the Nationals’ lineup. Whether or not that will help, is another question. Gallo was hitting just .122/.286/.311 with three homers, five RBI, one swipe and a 43/15 K/BB ratio over 91 plate appearances before landing on the injured list. Rotoworld 7 minutes ago

  • Optioned to Las Vegas
The Athletics optioned Allen to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Advice: Allen will return to the minors after slashing .171/.227/.243 across 77 plate appearances to begin the season. The 25-year-old infielder may return to Oakland if he's able to replicate his .939 Triple-A OPS from last year, but his reputation as an offensive liability in the majors could make the team hesitant to call him back up. • Limited session coming Saturday
Snell (thigh) will throw around 50 pitches Saturday during a bullpen session, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Manager Bob Melvin said if all goes well, the team will make a decision on whether Snell will have a rehab assignment or face hitters in live batting practice next. It was already anticipated that Snell would need more than the minimum 15 days on the injured list with his Grade 2 adductor strain, so a mid-May return is still the best-case scenario. • Lane Thomas (knee) takes dry swings on Friday
Lane Thomas (knee) was able to take dry swings without issue on Friday.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder is dealing with a sprained MCL in his left knee. It’s nice to hear that he’s already back up and swinging and it may not be long before he’s in the box against live pitching once again. The Nationals have yet to provide a potential timeline for his return. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

  • Josiah Gray (elbow) to throw bullpen on Saturday
Josiah Gray (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: The 26-year-old hurler continues to make slow and methodical progress in his recovery from a flexor strain. If all goes well with Saturday’s session he could then be cleared to face live hitters. There’s still no clear timetable on when he may be able to rejoin the Nationals’ rotation. • Shifting to bullpen
The Mets are moving Houser to the bullpen for their upcoming road series, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Houser last started Thursday against the Cubs, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two over five innings in a no decision. He's registering an 8.16 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 16:20 K:BB over 28.2 innings this season and holds an 0-3 record over six starts. With Mets' top pitching prospect Christian Scott making his major-league debut Saturday against the Rays and Tylor Megill (shoulder) inching closer to a return, Houser will temporarily shift over to the bullpen. Following New York's road series against St. Louis, the Mets will determine whether Houser's move will be permanent going forward. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
  • Athletics transfer Freddy Tarnok to the 60-day injured list
Athletics transferred RHP Freddy Tarnok to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander is still attempting to work his way back from last season’s hip surgery. This was done primarily as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Athletics’ 40-man roster for Brett Harris who had his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. • Could join MLB rotation next week
Javier (neck) will throw four innings or roughly 60-to-65 pitches Saturday for Double-A Corpus Christi before potentially rejoining the big-league rotation, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada said the hope is that Javier can rejoin Houston's rotation after this first rehab start, which would line him up to return either Thursday in New York or Friday in Detroit. He has been out since April 14 with neck discomfort. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago
