• D-backs recall lefty Joe Jacques on Thursday
Diamondbacks recalled LHP Joe Jacques from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Jacques rejoins Arizona’s bullpen for Thursday’s showdown against the Dodgers. The 29-year-old lefty has yet to make an appearance this season for the Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm
  • Back in majors
The Diamondbacks recalled Jacques from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Advice: Since being claimed off waivers from Boston in April, Jacuqes has recorded a 4.58 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 17.2 innings with Reno. He'll now join the big-league roster to add some depth to Arizona's bullpen, and Cristian Mena will head back to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:09 pm
  • D-backs option Cristian Mena to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Cristian Mena to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Mena heads back to the minors after allowing four runs over three innings on Wednesday in his major-league debut against the Dodgers. The 21-year-old righty figures to get another look at some point later this summer. Rotoworld Today, 2:07 pm
  • Drawing start Friday
Hoeing (hamstring) will be activated from the 15-day injured list and start Friday versus the White Sox, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hoeing has been used as a starter plenty in the past but has been deployed exclusively in relief in 2024 aside from a one-inning "start" on his rehab assignment. The 27-year-old threw 49 pitches over 2.2 frames in his most recent rehab appearance, so the Marlins' bullpen will be needed Friday. It's not clear whether this is a one-off for Hoeing or he could make additional starts. Rotowire.com Today, 2:04 pm

  • Jameson Taillon holds Phils to two runs in win
Jameson Taillon limited the Phillies to two runs over seven innings in inning Thursday and improving to 5-4 on the year.

Advice: Taillon struck out seven and walked none. He’s now 3-0 this year when he goes without a walk. He’s also 3-0 when he strikes out at least six. Really, he ought to try doing both things more often. Next up for him will be a tough one in Baltimore against the Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm

  • Cristopher Sánchez has rare off day versus Cubs
Cristopher Sánchez surrendered seven runs in four-plus innings versus the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: After three scoreless innings, Sánchez gave up a walk, a 109-mph single and a 112-mph homer to Iam Happ to start the fourth. That wasn’t the end of the damage, though. The Cubs rallied for two more runs in that frame after another walk, and then had two more soft hits to begin the fifth, resulting in his Sánchez’s removal. Both runners later came around to score off Seranthony Domínguez. Sánchez was working on a 19-inning scoreless streak until the fourth today. He gave up as many earned runs today as in his previous seven starts combined, and his ERA jumped from 2.41 to 2.96. Rotoworld Today, 1:58 pm
  • Greg Weissert picks up save against Marlins
Greg Weissert allowed an unearned run while picking up a save against the Marlins on Thursday.

Advice: The run was the “zombie” runner that starts at second base to begin every inning after the ninth. That’s the first save of the season for Weissert, and being blunt, it’s very likely the last. Rotoworld Today, 1:49 pm
  • Kyle Tyler gives up two runs in no-decision vs. BOS
Kyle Tyler gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Tyler gave up just three hits throughout the contest, and he walked two while fanning three. The right-hander gave up a run on a fielder’s choice in the first by Rafael Devers, and Devers grounded out again for a run in the sixth; this time after Tyler had left the game. The results have been fine for the 27-year-old since joining the Miami rotation, but there appears to be some smoke and mirrors to it without much swing-and-miss. It’d be a mistake to trust him as an option against the Astros next week. Rotoworld Today, 1:49 pm
