• Hammers out four hit Monday
Bichette went 4-for-4 with three doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Monday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Batting cleanup against righty Erick Fedde, Bichette scorched the ball all afternoon, and his final two doubles left his bat with exit velocities of 110.4 mph and 105.8 mph. After a tough start to 2024, the shortstop is catching fire at the plate, recording three multi-hit performances in his last six games and slashing .368/.429/.553 over his last 10 contests. • Launches eighth homer
Varsho went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: The 27-year-old outfielder crushed a Erick Fedde changeup over the right-field fence in the second inning for his eighth long ball of the season. Varsho is batting just .182 (10-for-55) in May, but half his hits have gone for extra bases (three doubles, two homers) and he's stayed productive with two steals, nine runs and nine RBI in 14 games. • Report: Ji-Hwan Bae to be called up Tuesday
Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports that the Pirates are recalling Ji-Hwan Bae from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Bae played well after being activated off the injured list and heading to Indianapolis with a .376 average and seven stolen bases to show for it. The 24-year-old can play all over the field and offers the ability to swipe bags with his speed, but isn’t likely to be a significant fantasy contributor in any other category. • Could be back this weekend
Francis (forearm) will throw about 45 pitches for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday in what's expected to be his final rehab appearance, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander has looked sharp in his first two rehab outings, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits with a 5:1 K:BB. Francis began the season in the Blue Jays' rotation, but he should fill a long relief role in the big-league bullpen when he returns. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

  • One more rehab appearance on tap
Green (shoulder) threw one inning for Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday and is expected to make another rehab appearance Wednesday, setting him up to potentially join the Blue Jays bullpen this weekend, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: The right-hander breezed through his scoreless frame on only nine pitches Sunday, striking out one batter. Green had a strong start to the season before suffering a shoulder strain in mid-April, recording a win, two saves and two holds in seven appearances with a 2.35 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB in 7.2 innings. He should immediately slot back into a high-leverage role upon activation, but Green's save chances will be limited with Jordan Romano back in the ninth inning after beginning the year on the IL. • Set to be recalled
Bae will be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis prior to the Pirates' game against the Giants on Tuesday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: There's no word yet on what the corresponding roster move will be. Bae has slashed .367/.479/.551 with four home runs and seven stolen bases over 27 games with Indianapolis this season. The 24-year-old has played center field, second base and left field with Indianapolis and should bounce around to multiple positions in Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Three hits in nightcap
D'Arnaud went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the second game of Monday's doubleheader split with the Padres.

Advice: The veteran catcher sat out Sunday's game and Monday's matinee after taking a foul tip off his facemask Friday, but d'Arnaud cleared the concussion protocol and looked none the worse for wear in his return to the lineup. He's slashing .274/.350/.509 through 120 plate appearances this season with five homers and 17 RBI, but with Sean Murphy (oblique) expected to begin a rehab assignment this week, d'Arnaud's stint as Atlanta's No. 1 backstop could come to a close by the end of the month. • Sent back to minors
The Athletics optioned Ferguson to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

Advice: Ferguson was unscored upon in his first five appearances with the A's but then allowed four runs in his last outing on Sunday to earn a trip back to the minors. Oakland will announce a corresponding move prior to Tuesday's game versus the Rockies. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

  • Tagged with loss in matinee
Jimenez (1-1) blew his first save of the season and took the loss in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Padres, coughing up four runs on three hits and two walks in one inning. He failed to strike out a batter.

Advice: The right-hander entered a 5-2 game in the top of the eighth inning and immediately issued a four-pitch walk to Ha-Seong Kim, setting the stage for a rare disastrous outing. Jimenez has only been charged with runs in three of his 18 appearances this season, posting a 3.50 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB over 18 innings with nine holds and a win as one of Atlanta's most reliable setup men.
