• Surrenders six runs Saturday
Civale allowed six runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out three batters over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Civale made it through three scoreless frames before serving up an Andrew Benintendi three-run homer in the fourth. The right-hander returned for the fifth frame but gave up three straight hits for another run before departing with one out, and both runners he left on base later came around to score. Civale began the campaign with three quality starts among his first four appearances, but he's fallen off since then, yielding 11 runs across nine innings over his subsequent two starts. He'll try to get back on track in his next start, which is tentatively lined up to be a home outing against the Mets next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:23 pm
  • Dylan Cease walks three, allows five in loss
Dylan Cease gave up five runs in six innings of work while picking up a loss Saturday against the Phillies.

Advice: Cease was going to have to be at his best to match Ranger Suárez, and unfortunately he wasn’t close. The right-hander did whiff five, but he gave up six hits that included a two-run homer from Alec Bohm. In his first season with the Padres, Cease has posted a very solid 2.78 ERA despite this not-so-effective outing. A chance to lower that figure comes Friday in Arizona. • Suárez finally allows run, still gets win vs. SD
Ranger Suárez gave up a run in eight innings of work with eight strikeouts to pick up a win over the Padres on Saturday.

Advice: Suárez entered Saturday with 25 consecutive scoreless innings, and that streak ended in the eighth when Eguy Rosario took the southpaw deep for a solo shot. That’s a little disappointing, but it’s another outstanding start for the 28-year-old, and he now possesses a 1.32 ERA for his trouble. We’ve seen Suárez have down periods after some flashes of brilliance, but to say he looks the part to begin 2024 is an understatement and then some. He’s a must-start against the Giants on Friday. • Nick Sandlin earns rare save against Atlanta
Nick Sandlin fired a scoreless 11th inning to pick up a save against Atlanta on Saturday.

Advice: Sandlin gets the save chance after the Guardians used Emanuel Clase in a tie game in the ninth inning. Sandlin didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout and also his first save of the year. Sandlin is a solid relief option for Cleveland, but with Clase in the fold, his save chances are going to be slim. Slim might be too high. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:18 pm
  • Charlie Morton gets hard-luck no-decision vs. CLE
Charlie Morton didn’t allow a run in seven innings of work with eight strikeouts, but still didn’t qualify for a decision during his start Saturday against the Guardians.

Advice: He allowed four hits with one walk. Morton was outstanding, but unfortunately, Tanner Bibee was just as good and blanked the Atlanta lineup while both were in the game. Morton has looked much better over his last two starts, as he’s allowed just two runs — both last Saturday against the Rangers — while striking out a dozen over 13 innings of work. The 40-year-old hurler will take a 3.60 ERA into his start against the Dodgers on Friday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:18 pm
  • Tanner Bibee whiffs nine over seven scoreless
Tanner Bibee held Atlanta scoreless over seven innings with nine strikeouts, but didn’t qualify for a decision in his start Saturday.

Advice: In one of the better pitching duels of the year, Bibbee and Charlie Morton battled zero-for-zero over the first seven frames. Bibbee allowed only two hits while in action, and he didn’t walk anyone while firing 60-of-91 pitches for strikes. The right-hander has struck out 17 batters over his last two starts, and he’s lowered his ERA to 3.45 after a couple of shaky outings in the early portion of the season. Bibee is back in action Friday against a not-so-good Angels’ lineup at home in Cleveland. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:18 pm
  • Allows four runs in no-decision
Cannon pitched five innings in a no-decision against Tampa Bay on Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

Advice: Cannon was better than in his previous outing -- when he gave up six runs over 3.2 frames versus Minnesota -- and racked up a promising 15 swinging strikes, but he still allowed a constant stream of baserunners. The right-hander also gave up his first two homers of the campaign, accounting for three of the four runs against him. Cannon has given up 11 earned runs across 13.2 frames in his three starts, and it wouldn't be surprising if he's pushed out of the rotation once Mike Clevinger is ready to make his season debut for the big club. • Joe Ross surrenders six runs in loss to Yankees
Joe Ross allowed six runs in five innings while picking up a loss Saturday against the Yankees.

Advice: Ross was solid in his start Monday against the Pirates. This was not a repeat. The right-hander gave up eight hits while walking three, and only 56-of-99 pitches went for strikes. Ross has now alternated strong starts with clunkers, and there just isn’t enough upside here to justify risking the bitter with the better. Ross will try and bounce back against the Cubs on Friday. • Carlos Rodón’fans eight over six strong vs. MIL
Carlos Rodón gave up just one run while striking out eight in six innings of work while getting a win over the Brewers on Saturday.

Advice: We don’t have rooting interests, but it’s been refreshing to see Rodón look so effective over his past few starts. He allowed just two hits with one walk, and that makes 13 innings of one-run baseball over those last two outings. The injury concerns with Rodón are very real and consistency has not been his friend, but the 31-year-old absolutely has the stuff to be a dominant fantasy option. He’ll look to keep it going Thursday in a tough matchup with Baltimore. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:13 pm
