    • Freddie Freeman scalds RBI double in Dodgers’ win
Freddie Freeman went 2-for-3 with an RBI double on Thursday, lifting the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Nationals.

Advice: Freeman has flown a bit under the radar with Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani justifiably stealing the early-season spotlight. However, his latest multi-hit performance puts his batting average back above the .300 mark for the first time this season. The 34-year-old fantasy stalwart has shown zero signs of slowing down at this stage of his career and remains an elite four-category contributor also capable of chipping in the occasional stolen base. • Brenton Doyle picks up three hits, two steals
Brenton Doyle went 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases against the Padres on Thursday.

Advice: Doyle scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning in a game that the Rockies trailed 9-4 coming into the inning. The pair of steals gives the speedy outfielder four on the season, and the three knocks improves his average to .330. Doyle was not a good offensive player in 2023, and it’s more than fair to question whether any of this is sustainable. That being said, a friendly home park and impressive athleticism at least makes Doyle worth monitoring. Rotoworld Today, 3:18 pm

    • Trea Turner has three hits in win
Trea Turner went 3-for-5 with a double in a win over the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: Turner hit the ball well on Thursday, with five batted balls that were at least 96.7 mph. It continues a strong start to the season for the shortstop, who’s slashing .336/.388/.477 on the year with two home runs and six steals. As Bryce Harper continues to heat up, he should rack up far more runs scored as well. Rotoworld Today, 2:14 pm

    • Héctor Neris collects third SV of season Thursday
Héctor Neris fired a scoreless ninth to pick up a save Thursday against the Astros.

Advice: Neris did make things interesting, as he walked a pair of hitters to put the go-ahead run at the plate. Ultimately the 34-year-old was able to get the job done, and he now has three saves on the season after not opening the year in the closing role. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm

    • Red Sox make Ceddanne Rafaela everyday shortstop
Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Thursday that Ceddanne Rafaela is their new everyday shortstop.

Advice: There was some hesitation earlier this month from the Red Sox about potentially moving Rafaela back to shortstop in the wake of Trevor Story’s season-ending shoulder injury. However, they’ve officially made the move in part to shore up their lackluster middle infield defense and also get Wilyer Abreu’s hot bat into the lineup more often in a corner outfield spot. It’ll be Jarren Duran taking over in center field everyday until further notice. It’s a significant development for fantasy purposes as Rafaela gains middle infield eligibility, which gives him some additional appeal from a roster construction standpoint, even in shallow mixed leagues. • Max Scherzer (back) will make another rehab start
Max Scherzer (back) will make his next minor league rehab start on Tuesday for Double-A Frisco.

Advice: Scherzer threw 52 pitches (32 strikes) and allowed three runs over 2 1/3 innings on Wednesday in his first rehab outing for Triple-A Round Rock. It doesn’t come as a total shock that the 39-year-old veteran looked a bit shaky in his first start since offseason back surgery, and he’ll get at least one additional rehab tune-up prior to returning to the Rangers’ starting rotation mix in early May. • Peralta has first poor start of the season
Freddy Peralta allowed five runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: It all came down to command for Peralta, who walked five and struck out five on the day. Peralta, who has been electric all season, had just a 40 percent zone rate on the day and an 18 percent chase rate, so he wasn’t able to pound the strike zone and didn’t make the Pirates chase pitches out of the strike zone. His fastball, which had taken a massive step forward in 2024, had just a 40 percent zone rate on its own. Without that, Peralta was never able to get into a rhythm. We’ve seen his fastball command fail him at times, but this is the first time in 2024, so hopefully it’s not the beginning of a poor stretch of command. Peralta gets a tough test against the Rays next week, but should still be started in all leagues. Rotoworld Today, 1:07 pm

    • Next rehab outing set for Tuesday
Scherzer (back) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Frisco, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Scherzer will look to push up his pitch count in his second rehab outing after he struck out four over 2.1 innings (52 pitches) while allowing three earned runs on five hits and no walks in his 2024 debut Wednesday with Triple-A Round Rock. Since Scherzer missed all of spring training while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, he could require an additional rehab start after Tuesday to get fully stretched out. The right-hander looks on track to return from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut for the Rangers in early May. Rotowire.com Today, 10:34 am

    • Declared everyday shortstop
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Rafaela is the team's everyday shortstop at this point, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Cora has said as much through his actions -- giving Rafaela a sixth straight start at shortstop Thursday -- and now he has confirmed it with his words. Rafaela's defense both at shortstop and in center field is considered plus, and using him at shortstop with Trevor Story (shoulder) out for the season frees up the team's outfield log jam. With Rafaela settling in at shortstop, Wilyer Abreu has become an everyday player in the outfield, making 10 straight starts. Rotowire.com Today, 8:55 am
