    • Mariners option RHP Emerson Hancock to Triple-A
Mariners optioned RHP Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Hancock allowed two runs in seven innings against the White Sox on Thursday night, but it appears to have just been a spot start. He’ll return to Triple-A and it seems like he’ll need an injury to one of Seattle’s starters to crack the rotation this year. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

    • Sent to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.

Advice: The right-hander was called up for a spot start Thursday against the White Sox, but he won't stick on the big-league roster despite allowing just two runs across seven innings. Hancock has a 4.79 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB over 41.1 major-league innings this season, and he should be in the mix for a promotion whenever Seattle needs rotation help. • Covers three frames in bulk relief
Yarbrough tossed three relief innings against Texas on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and four walks while striking out three batters.

Advice: With Yoshinobu Yamamoto's scheduled start pushed back to Saturday, Los Angeles opted for a bullpen game in the finale of a three-game set against the Rangers. Michael Grove opened and took the loss after allowing two runs in one inning, and Yarbrough settled things down a bit with three innings of one-run ball despite issuing a season-high four free passes. Yarbrough has shifted between a starting role and a relief role throughout his career, but he's made all 19 of his appearances so far this year out of the bullpen. The southpaw has covered two or more innings in 11 of those outings, and overall he's posted a 3.11 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 22:16 K:BB over 46.1 frames. Rotowire.com Today, 10:22 am

    • Tagged with loss Thursday
Law (3-2) took the loss Thursday against the Tigers, coughing up four runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of relief. He struck out one.

Advice: The journeyman right-hander wasted a strong effort by Patrick Corbin, giving up a solo shot to Justyn-Henry Malloy in the sixth inning before the wheels came off completely for Law in the seventh. He's handled a versatile role out of the Nationals' bullpen this season, recording six holds and three wins in 33 appearances with a 3.48 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 41:13 K:BB through 41.1 innings, but the heavy workload may be catching up to him -- Law's been scored up in four of his last eight trips to the mound, and he's been taken deep twice in his last three games. • Collects fifth hold
Faucher struck out one in 1.1 perfect innings of relief to Thursday to record his fifth hold of the season in a loss to the Mets.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander continues to give the Marlins solid innings while seeing occasional high-leverage work. Faucher has been scored upon only twice in his last 12 appearances, posting a 2.38 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB through 11.1 innings over that stretch. JT Chargois' return from the IL figures to bump him down another spot in the bullpen pecking order, but if Miami cleans house at the deadline and ships out relievers like Tanner Scott, there could be an opening for Faucher in the late-inning crew. • Drawing start Friday
Wicks is slated to start Friday's game against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

Advice: Wicks worked out of the bullpen in last Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Reds following his return from the 15-day injured list, but he'll slot back into the rotation for Friday's series opener with Ben Brown (neck) landing on the IL. Given that he covered 3.1 innings and 52 pitches in his relief outing last weekend, Wicks should be fairly stretched out for starting duties Friday. Over his five starts prior to landing on the IL, Wicks went 1-2 with a 4.70 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB across 23 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 7:17 am

    • Takes third loss
Grove (4-3) was charged with the loss against the Rangers on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits over one inning.

Advice: Grove failed to retire three of the first five batters he faced, which led to two runs coming home for Texas in the first inning. That would prove to be the difference as the Dodgers' offense managed to generate only one run on the night, leaving Grove with his first loss since May 10. The right-hander has now allowed at least one run and multiple hits in each of his last two appearances. He's also failed to record a strikeout in three straight outings. • DL Hall (knee) begins rehab assignment
DL Hall (knee) started a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.

Advice: Hall faced only five hitters and threw 25 pitches. He allowed two runs in 2/3 of an inning. Hall gave up two hits, walked one and struck out one. He doesn’t appear to be close to rejoining the Brewers at the moment. Rotoworld Today, 5:58 am

    • Kyle Freeland (elbow) begins rehab assignment
Kyle Freeland (elbow) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

Advice: Freeland allowed one run in three innings and threw 38 pitchers. He gave up three hits, walked none and struck out four. Freeland will need at least another start or two in the minors before returning to the Rockies’ rotation. Rotoworld Today, 5:45 am
