    • Kodai Senga (shoulder) resumes playing catch
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Tuesday that Kodai Senga (shoulder) has resumed playing light catch.

Advice: Senga was scratched from a scheduled bullpen session earlier this week due to triceps tightness, so the fact that he’s already back throwing already is encouraging. The 31-year-old righty remains in rehabilitation purgatory as he tinkers with his mechanics. At this point, it’s extremely difficult to pinpoint when he’ll be ready to return this season, if at all. • Willson Contreras optimistic on earlier return
Willson Contreras (fractured forearm) has already had his cast removed.

Advice: The exact date is uncertain, but Contreras has been cast-less since at least last Friday, May 17. It may have been as early as May 11. “I’m really happy with how the process is going and how well I’m recovering,” Contreras said late last week. “The way I feel, I could say, it’s not going to be (until) the All-Star break. It could be earlier than that. I’m not going to say something that is going to get above the doctors’ opinion, but if you’re asking me how I’m feeling, I’m feeling great.” The Cardinals have yet to comment on Contreras potentially beating his All-Star week return projection, but it is now definitely within the realm of possibility. • Plays light catch
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Senga (shoulder/triceps) played light catch Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Advice: Senga -- who is on the injured list with a right posterior shoulder capsule strain -- had to have a scheduled bullpen session Sunday scrapped due to right triceps tightness. The hope is that he'll be able to throw off a mound later this week, though, and it's a good sign that he was able to do any kind of throwing Tuesday. Senga's timetable for a return is open-ended. • J.P. Crawford returns to M’s lineup on Tuesday
J.P. Crawford is leading off on Tuesday against the Yankees.

Advice: Crawford is back at shortstop and leading off on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium after sitting out Monday’s series opener following his activation for the injured list. Rotoworld Today, 1:08 pm

    • On bench again
Kepler is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: The Twins are facing a lefty for the second straight day, meaning Kepler will give way to the righty-hitting Manuel Margot in right field. Kepler is slashing .303/.352/.505 across 108 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Today, 11:29 am

    • In-game replacement in IL return
Crawford (oblique), activated from the injured list earlier in the day, entered Monday's win over the Yankees as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and remained in the game at shortstop, going 0-for-2.

Advice: Crawford struck out swinging in his pinch-hit appearance and subsequently flied out to center to close out the ninth. The veteran shortstop was logging his first game action since April 23, and given his in-game appearance and ability to play defense Monday, he's a likely candidate to return to the starting nine Tuesday. • Back in lineup
Suarez went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Suarez was back in the starting lineup after getting his first day off of the season Sunday. His seventh-inning double snapped an 0-for-12 run. Suarez, who is hitting .155 with a .478 OPS during May, has yet to find a groove for his new club. For the season, he's slashing .212/.279/.324 through 47 games. Rotowire.com Today, 3:18 am

    • Slugs grand slam in win
Freeman went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Monday's 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The homer was Freeman's first since May 11 and his third in May. He gave the Dodgers the lead in the third inning, and they never looked back. Freeman is up to five long balls, 29 RBI, 31 runs scored, one stolen base and a .298/.409/.464 slash line through 50 contests. He's not hitting for as much power as he did last year, when he racked up 29 homers, 59 doubles and a .567 slugging percentage, but there's little to complain about from what the first baseman's provided so far in 2024. • Records two steals Monday
Tucker went 1-for-3 with two walks, one RBI and two stolen bases in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Angels.

Advice: After a two-homer game versus the Brewers on Sunday, Tucker showcased his speed Monday. The outfielder is in the midst of another excellent stretch with seven homers and four steals over his last 14 contests. For the season, he's up to a .288/.421/.618 slash line with 15 home runs, 34 RBI, 33 runs scored, nine steals and 11 doubles over 47 games. Tucker has had 30 homers and 30 steals in separate seasons, but he's on pace to hit both milestones in the same campaign for the first time in 2024. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:46 pm
