    • Launches third homer
Higashioka went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Higashioka got the Padres on the board in the fifth inning with his solo shot. This was his second homer over three games in June after he hit just one long ball over the first two months of the season. The backup catcher is at a .161/.175/.357 slash line with five RBI, four runs scored and two doubles across 57 plate appearances. Higashioka is unlikely to see much playing time as long as Luis Campusano is healthy. Rotowire.com Today, 10:15 pm
    • Outrighted to Triple-A
Koch was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Advice: Koch was designated for assignment Tuesday and went unclaimed on waivers. He'll remain in the Pirates' organization and serve as depth at catcher, though his chances of reaching the majors again in 2024 appear slim. Rotowire.com Today, 9:44 pm

    • Pirates outright Grant Koch to Triple-A
Pirates sent C Grant Koch outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Koch was booted from Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster earlier this week and promptly went unclaimed on waivers. The 27-year-old backstop will head back to the minors as extra organizational catching depth after being designated for assignment for the first time in his career. He went 0-for-7 with six strikeouts and one walk in three games with the Pirates. Rotoworld Today, 4:11 pm

    • Mitch Garver socks solo homer in win over A’s
Mitch Garver drove in two runs and hit a solo homer in a victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Garver also drew two walks. He blooped in a single to score Cal Raleigh in the fourth, and his homer was off a center-cut fastball from T.J. McFarland that extended Seattle’s lead to 3-0. Garver has six homers on the season and has been a significant disappointment with a slash of .175/.285/.327 over the first 60-plus games of 2024. • Tyler Soderstrom starting at 1B for A’s on THU
Tyler Soderstrom is starting at first base for the Athletics against the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: Soderstrom will hit seventh and play first base with J.D. Davis taking a seat. With Davis hitting just .229 on the year, there’s been a chance for the 22-year-old Soderstrom to carve out more playing time. Unfortunately, he’s not hitting well himself, slashing .174/.309/.304 with a 42 percent strikeout rate. Fantasy managers in deep leagues can keep an eye on Sodestrom to see if he can pick it up and earn more at-bats, but he’s not rosterable in leagues right now. Rotoworld Today, 10:00 am

    • Henry Davis improved against velocity in demotion
According to MLB.com’s Alex Stumpf, after Henry Davis’ demotion in early May, he prioritized hitting against higher velocity and reacting more than thinking.

Advice: Davis was a trendy fantasy sleeper in the spring but he had a really rough start to the season, hitting .162/.280/.206 slash line with zero homers, four RBI, zero stolen bases, and a 29/11 K/BB ratio over 83 plate appearances. According to Stumpf, the first thing Davis did after was go “to the fastball machine and turned it up as high as it could go. For three days before his assignment to Indianapolis started Davis swung there.” The idea was to combat Davis’ self-described issue with over-thinking in the batter’s box. “People talk about how the speed of the game speeds up, but the second I did that without thinking about anything, it went back to what I’ve done my whole life, my whole career.” Davis performed well in Triple-A, hitting .296 with seven home runs and a 1.078 OPS over 101 plate appearances, and will hope to carry it over into his current big league stint. • Goes yard twice in rout
Torrens went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the Nationals.

Advice: The backstop took Patrick Corbin deep in the third and sixth innings as he produced his first multi-homer game in the majors in nearly three years. Torrens has started three of four games since joining the Mets, going 3-for-10 with his third hit being a double, and the 28-year-old is making a strong case to stick around as the No. 2 catcher instead of Tomas Nido when Francisco Alvarez (thumb) comes off the IL next week. • Luis Torrens homers twice to lead Mets
Luis Torrens clobbered a pair of solo home runs on Wednesday, helping to power the Mets to a 9-1 victory over the Nationals in Washington.

Advice: The 28-year-old backstop opened the scoring in the ballgame in the third inning with a 398-foot (103.0 mph EV) solo shot off of Nationals’ left-hander Patrick Corbin. He then replicated the feat in the sixth inning — that time a 404-foot (101.6 mph EV) blast that increased the Mets’ advantage to 3-0. Torrens finished the afternoon 2-for-4 and is now hitting a robust .300/.364/1.000 with a pair of homers and four RBI in his limited action this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:38 pm
    • Sitting down Wednesday
Garver isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: Garver appeared to break out of his slump Sunday with a 2-for-4 performance against the Angels, but he will now get a breather following Tuesday's 0-for-3 outing. Mitch Haniger will fill in as Seattle's designated hitter while batting seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:26 pm
