• Austin Riley (side) hits off tee on Wednesday
Austin Riley (side) hit off of a tee without any issues on Wednesday.

Advice: The 27-year-old slugger continues to progress toward a return to the Braves lineup. The next step will be to face live pitching. He has sat out each of the team’s last nine ballgames due to soreness in his side. Zack Short is once again starting at the hot corner for the Braves on Wednesday night against Justin Steele and the Cubs. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:56 pm

  • Sitting against southpaw
Busch is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: With a tough southpaw in Max Fried on the mound for Atlanta, the lefty-hitting Busch will retreat to the bench. Patrick Wisdom will replace Busch at first base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:43 pm

  • Gunnar Henderson reaches three times in O’s loss
Gunnar Henderson singled and walked twice on Wednesday in the Orioles’ loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Henderson kicked off the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning and wound up reaching base safely in three of his five plate appearances. The 22-year-old franchise cornerstone is in the midst of one of the best stretches of his young career, batting .280/.419/.840 with four homers and one steal over his last seven games. • Filling in for injured Riley
Short will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Short will draw a ninth consecutive start at the hot corner while Austin Riley (side) remains day-to-day. The 28-year-old has delivered a solid .345 on-base percentage over his prior eight starts, but he's provided little fantasy value with a .208 average, zero home runs or stolen bases and two RBI and runs during that stretch. He'll fall back into a light role once Riley is cleared to return to the lineup. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:41 pm

  • On bench Wednesday
Mendick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: After being activated from the injured list Friday, Mendick had started at third base in each of the White Sox's ensuing five games, going 3-for-18 with two doubles and two RBI. Mendick should have a fairly clear path to regular playing time at the hot corner while Bryan Ramos (quadricep) is on the shelf, but he'll give way to Zach Remillard in Wednesday's series finale. • Alex Bregman goes 0-for-4 against Angels
Alex Bregman went 0-for-4 as the Astros’ cleanup hitter Wednesday to finish hitless in the series against the Angels.

Advice: Bregman had three homers in two games against the A’s early last week, prompting the Astros to return him to the cleanup spot, but since then, he’s 4-for-31 with one RBI in eight games. It’s hard to imagine Bregman remaining this bad, but he’s long posted subpar BABIPs and his typically average exit velocity numbers are worse than usual right now. The rebound might not be as strong as most would hope. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:22 pm
  • Gets another start Wednesday
Urias will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: Urias will stick in the lineup for the seventh time in eight games, but most of his playing time came while infielders J.P. Crawford (oblique) and Jorge Polanco (hamstring) were both out with injuries. Crawford and Polanco are both starting Wednesday, but the Mariners will have room in the lineup for Urias with the left-handed-hitting Josh Rojas hitting the bench against Yankees southpaw Nestor Cortes. Assuming both Crawford and Polanco are in the clear to handle everyday roles moving forward, Urias looks like he'll be relegated to the short side of a platoon with Rojas. • On bench against lefty
Rojas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: With lefty Nestor Cortes on the mound for the Yankees, the lefty-hitting Rojas will retreat to the bench after he had started in each of the Mariners' last eight games. Luis Urias will pick up a start at third base in Rojas' stead. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:01 pm

  • Sitting again Wednesday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Though Riley took a step forward in his recovery from a left side strain by taking swings Tuesday, he'll remain on the bench for the ninth game in a row Wednesday. Provided he didn't experience any setbacks from Tuesday's activity and is continuing to show daily improvement, Riley still looks like he'll avoid the injured list, and his return to the lineup could happen any day.
