• Still not throwing
Gilbreath (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gilbreath's return to the field has slowed as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, but the current issue is pain behind his left shoulder. Positively, he is showing progress in his rehab exercises. Rotowire.com Today, 12:02 am

  • Steps into setup role
Abreu threw a scoreless eighth inning while allowing one hit and striking out three to record a hold Friday against the Tigers.

Advice: Ryan Pressly (back) hasn't pitched since May 3, leaving Abreu as Houston's primary setup man. He blew the lead in his first opportunity in the role Sunday, but he performed well in Friday's appearance to tally his sixth hold of the season. Since allowing six earned runs across his first 5.2 innings of the campaign, Abreu has allowed only five earned runs across his last 15.2 frames. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:18 pm
  • Snags first win
Duffey (1-0) pitched a perfect inning and earned the win over the Angels on Friday.

Advice: The Royals saved their offense for late, and Duffey ended up benefiting from it after keeping the deficit to one run in the eighth inning. He's kept runs off the board in four of his six major-league appearances this season. The right-hander has a 4.05 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB over 6.2 innings while adding one hold, though he's primarily served as a low-leverage option. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:42 pm
  • Closes out Friday's game
Diaz walked one and struck out two in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Giants.

Advice: Diaz had given up five runs over 1.1 innings across his last two outings, which came in non-save situations. This was his first save since April 27, and he's now 7-for-8 in save chances this season. A couple of implosions have wreaked havoc on Diaz's ratios -- he's at a 6.08 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 16:9 K:BB through 13.1 innings, but he's been scored upon in four of his 14 appearances. His walk rate is high, but it hasn't cost him the closer job yet. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:01 pm
  • Blows save, takes loss
Estevez (0-2) blew the save and took the loss Friday against Kansas City. He allowed two runs on three hits and no walks with one strikeout over one inning.

Advice: Estevez allowed a lead-taking, two-run homer to Adam Frazier in the ninth inning to blow his third save on the year. Oddly, the Angels closer has yet to walk a batter this season, but he has allowed three homers over 11.2 innings, leading to a 6.17 ERA. Despite the ugly ERA, Estevez remains securely planted in the Angels closer seat. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 pm
  • Tallies first save
Schreiber picked up the save Friday against the Angels. He pitched a shutout inning, allowing one hit with no strikeouts.

Advice: Schreiber collected his first save season and tenth of his career Friday night. He looked steady, allowing a one-out double to Matt Thaiss before swiftly retiring the next two batters on grounders. James McArthur, the typical Royals closer, worked back-to-back nights on Tuesday and Wednesday, so manager Matt Quatraro could have been given him extra rest Friday night. However, McArthur also blew two saves this week, so keep an eye on the bullpen situation in Kansas City to see if Schreiber picks up more save opportunities. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:53 pm
  • Fans seven in no-decision
Marsh did not factor into the decision Friday against the Angels, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Marsh (elbow) looked sharp in his return from the injured list Friday night, tossing a formidable 85 pitches. The Kansas City right-hander lowered his ERA to 2.53 overall with his effort against the Angels. He also stayed hot after throwing 10 shutout innings in his two starts before the injured list stint. Marsh is scheduled to make his next start against the Mariners on the road. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:50 pm

  • Díaz picks up seventh save against Giants
Alexis Díaz hurled a scoreless ninth to get a save against the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Díaz did allow a walk, but he didn’t give up a hit while striking out two, and lowered his ERA to 6.08 in the process. That ERA is less-than-ideal, but keep in mind that it’s mostly from some early scuffles. Díaz should be a fine closing option for the remainder of 2024. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:49 pm
  • Kevin Herget picks up second career save
Kevin Herget recorded his second career save by allowing two runs over the final three innings Friday in the Brewers’ rout of the Cardinals.

Advice: Herget also had a three-inning save for the Reds last year. The 33-year-old was making his second appearance for the Brewers after being called up Monday. He’s made a total of 19 relief appearances in the majors since debuting with the Rays in 2021. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:38 pm
